Writing for IPWatchdog, Inc, Cody Madison and Lisa Geary discuss the important strategic considerations around biological deposits when filing patent applications. If you are planning to file a patent application that uses or claims a biological material, you may need to deposit a sample of that material with a recognized depository institution. Understanding the nuances of biological deposits can make a big difference in the patentability and commercial value of your invention. What's the current status of patent filings in Europe? Check out the Roundtable of the European Patent Office at the #HamburgScienceSummit on 19 September 2024! ☝️Roundtable #2: The global race for patents: Where do we stand in Europe? Ilja Rudyk (Advisor Chief Economist, European Patent Office) Andreas Schuster (CTO and Founder, Orcan Energy) Ia Modin (Partner, GOZZO Advokater Göteborg) Joachim Fiedler (CEO and Founder, FIDLOCK) ❗️Patents play a crucial role in converting scientific research into commercially viable products, and are greatly important as key assets for startups and investors. However, despite a strong foundation in scientific research, Europe is witnessing a gradual decline in its share of patent filings, particularly in the newest technological sectors. What strategic measures can be taken to enhance Europe’s performance in the global innovation arena? The roundtable, organised by the new Observatory on Patents and Technology of the European Patent Office, will foster a deeper understanding of effective IP management and discuss solutions to empower European innovators in the competitive global market for patents and technological advances. ✔️Learn more about the #HamburgScienceSummit (link in the comment). #patents #EUinnovation #futuretech #technologicalsovereignty #EUInnovation #hamburgsciencesummit #gesellschaftbessermachen Photo Credits: Ilja Rudyk: EPO Andreas Schuster: SeverinSchweiger_DASKRAFTBILD Ia Modin: David Lagerlöf Joachim Fiedler: Ricardo Wiesinger EPO

Please find below the analysis that was presented during the National Conference of the Italian Association of Patent Documentalists held in Bologna. The focus of my contribution was on patent evaluation metrics, which are critical measures for assessing the technological impact and determining the value of innovations, especially when aligned with sustainability objectives. You can access detailed information on the patent evaluation metrics through this link: https://lnkd.in/dkcnBj6Z Furthermore, the methodology employed to map technologies (through IPC, CPC and keywords) to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was thoroughly explained during the presentation. The graphs provided illustrated trends and developments in Italy regarding sustainable development, with a particular focus on SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). A comparative analysis was also conducted, highlighting Italy’s performance relative to other EU member states in these areas. This approach, grounded in quantitative and qualitative metrics, is a starting point for assessing the interplay between patents, technology innovation, and sustainable development in Italy and beyond. Thanks Questel Consulting for this work!
