We’ve completed studies on nurses, dental practitioners, pharmacists, and vets – now, it’s time for #midwives👩⚕️! This is the fifth study that Spark carries out for the European Commission (DG GROW) on the mapping and assessment of developments for the sectoral professions under Directive 2005/36/EC. As with the previous studies, Spark will support the Commission in assessing whether to propose adapting the minimum subjects, knowledge and skills for the #midwifery profession. It will do so by: 👶🏼 mapping the current requirements of the theoretical and clinical training of midwives, the training programmes, and the knowledge and skills that students should acquire in all EU/EFTA States; 👶🏽 assessing whether it would be appropriate to update the minimum requirements of Directive 2005/36/EC in light of scientific and technical development; and 👶🏾 providing suggestions on possible updates based on research, data assessment and interaction with relevant stakeholders. We are thrilled to start working on this, together with the support of both our key experts in the field and our great team of national legal experts! 🤝 🔔 Do not forget to check website if you want to stay updated on the progress of this Study https://lnkd.in/d_a-zUMb

Nurse Executive - Empower Nurses Consult | Inspirational Career Coach| 2022 International Nursing Now Awards Recipient
House of Reps halts implementation of Nursing Council’s revised certificate verification guidelines The House of Representatives has halted the revised guidelines set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) for the verification of certificates for nurses and midwives. The decision was reached following a motion of urgent public importance raised by Rep. Patrick Umoh (APC-Akwa-Ibom) during Tuesday’s plenary in Abuja. The revised guidelines, dated February 7, 2024, were slated to take effect on March 1, 2024. The key points included a stipulation that applicants for verification must possess a minimum of two years of post-qualification experience from the date of obtaining a permanent practice license. This requirement involves securing a letter of good standing from the CEO of the applicant’s workplace and the last training institution attended, with the processing time expected to be a minimum of six months. The House of Representatives decision Rep. Umoh argued that the two-year post-qualification experience prerequisite was unreasonable, arbitrary, and unfair. He expressed concerns that it could impede the educational pursuits of nurses seeking further training or skills enhancement in foreign universities. Moreover, the motion highlighted the demand for applicants to secure a letter of good standing from their employers, deeming it a potential source of forced labor. This requirement, according to Rep. Umoh, could subject applicants to the arbitrary decisions of their employers, resembling a form of modern slavery. The House, adopting the motion, urged the NMCN to postpone the implementation of the revised guidelines pending an investigation by the House. The House Committees on Health Institutions and Legislative Compliance were mandated to ensure compliance with this resolution and investigate the controversies surrounding the revised guidelines, with a report expected within six weeks. https://lnkd.in/gesm_7ke ICN-International Council of Nurses World Health Organization Nova Scotia College of Nursing Nursing Times Nursing Now Challenge

NMCWatch Registrant care CIC was encouraged to read this article by the Independant https://lnkd.in/diNpuXVq However the culture is not isolated to how they treat their own staff - it is endemic on how they behave and how it has become the norm to behave as above how any other organisation in healthcare is expected to behave. Someone very wise said to me recently " If this were an NHS trust it would have been in special measures years ago and the whole board / council would have gone" There are some very good personell at the NMC trying their best to influence change but when behaviour is so indoctrinated something big has to happen. We hear from families of patients, registrants and friends of registrants who have taken their own lives to hear this behaviour is to ALL the NMC deal with. Just because you are under investigation does not mean you should be treated with any less compassion, fairness and care. Many of those under investigation will have their no case to answer and many of those even going to hearing will be cleared. From those cases we have been involved with the glaring aspect is even cases that have gone on years have had very poor investigation, lack of transparency around evidence gathering and a complete disregard for what this is supposed to be about - ensuring safe practitioners remain in the workplace and ones that are beyond remediation are shown this is not the profession for them Currently the process does nothing for "learn" and all for "blame
