I took a deep breath while I waited. It hadn’t worked the last… 20 times? 50 times? I had tried just about every level, type, and way of building this last #ConfigurableJoins in Slate. Honestly, I had probably tried the same thing a few times, because it would magically work a second time, right? Now Slate paused as it “Previewed Results” 𝐈𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 Slate emailed a targeted list of classes to the student/advisor: Classes being offered in the upcoming term That were also required for that student’s major And excluded classes they had previously taken It was such an exhilarating feeling. Testing this had been on my To-Do list months, and it worked. And after discussing the concept with Elizabeth (Liz) Powell, the countless other uses for this started surfacing. Why not recommend classes that similar students were successful in? Tag classes, timeslots, and faculty that always have an overflowing roster to inform course scheduling? Calculate course ROI based on institution costs, student NTR, and enrollment. With a bit of data, Slate could easily float all of these insights to inform strategy. These are the exhilarating moments that make me love my job just that much more. 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. And a huge thank you to Paloma Barragan Zepeda who recommended that last CJ trick that got this working. I’m very lucky to have brilliant people to bounce ideas off of! #DontDoBoringThings #Slate #CourseInsightsEngine #StudentJourney

I’m excited to be partnering with PeakSpan Capital as Abre grows. The tremendous growth we've achieved already is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team and the rock-solid, egoless leadership of Chris Rose, Zach Vander Veen, and James Stoffer. Abre's mission to transform K-12 education by enabling schools to collect, organize, and utilize all the data they have locked away in silos resonates deeply with me. My entire career has centered around helping businesses put their data to work by building highly performant data teams and capabilities. I’m genuinely excited about applying all that experience directly to helping schools with their data needs. Coming from a family of educators, and having spent years in EdTech, I can attest that the data challenges faced by K-12 districts today—data silos, underutilized data, and a lack of data engineering—are large and complex, but they are precisely the kind of challenges I feel confident tackling. Our partnership with PeakSpan is an important leap forward, enabling us to scale our teams and products to empower educators, students, and administrators nationwide. I'm proud to be part of a team that is dedicated to unlocking the value of data for K-12 districts. Thank you, PeakSpan, for your belief in our vision and for your partnership as we continue to scale and innovate. #edtech, #dataengineering, #analytics, #datagovernance, #datascience
We’re excited to partner with James Stoffer, Chris Rose, Zach Vander Veen, Kelly Havens, and the entire team at Abre as they power best-in-class data-driven insights for K-12 districts nationally to improve student outcomes, operational efficiency, and stakeholder engagement! Check out our thesis for Abre at the link below, including why we’re so excited by what Abre is doing to democratize data intelligence, transform student outcomes, and why we believe they’re creating the central hub for the modern U.S. K-12 district. The future for Abre is both bright and open!

I've shared these 'Introduction to Degrowth' slides before, but they needed a little update. I've recently come across an 'Internationalist' perspective on degrowth that these slides didn't include and I felt it was remiss of me to not have included it. So, I've added slides 21, 22 and 31 to this deck to redress my error. A big thanks to Nathalie Roy 🌍🌱, Matthias Schmelzer, Tonny Nowshin and Gabriel Trettel Silva for their work in this area. For anyone wanting to use this document, please feel free. It is downloadable from this post. #degrowth #globaljustice

Great introduction to the concept of degrowth Erin Remblance and for making it publicly usable, thank you! I am especially glad to see the added slides on justice, historic inequalities and global power dynamics.🌱 Degrowth is a crucial conversation to have, and I'm excited to see more people talking of this. Its one major piece of the puzzle, and we need to be careful not to oversimplify or romanticize the concept. Degrowth needs to be paired with other social and environmental movements, as you are pointing to in your slides. 🌍 We need to address issues like inequality, racism, and climate change in conjunction with promoting sustainable consumption and production.

The Make it Right Formula™️ “You mean I can be friends again after I hurt my friend’s feelings?” Students want a way to make things right when they mess up. And “I’m sorry” doesn’t always cut it. W = what happened I = impact on you; impact on me P = Plan for next time E = elevate the other WIPE™️ the slate clean to move on. Works like a charm!
