Through our Patriot Pets program, a U.S. Marine was reunited with two dogs he nursed back to health while deployed in Georgia. Latte and Biscuit, who survived canine parvovirus thanks to the service member's daily vet visits and care, joined him and his wife at LAX on June 29. The fully recovered dogs joyfully greeted their new owners and are now thriving in their new forever home. You can read more about this happy reunion in KTLA's article - https://lnkd.in/ewz5andX

This #WorldSeniorCitizensDay, AWI recognizes the important role companion animals can play in improving older adults’ quality of life. Unfortunately, there is significant overlap between animal abuse and elder abuse, as the bond between seniors and their pets is sometimes exploited by abusers. Cross reporting of animal and elder abuse can lead to more effective interventions for people and pets. Recognizing and reporting red flags could help you protect seniors in your community. Visit: https://lnkd.in/e-XXp3gY to learn the signs. To help individuals who are experiencing abuse get themselves and their companion animals to safety, AWI established and maintains the Safe Havens for Pets directory. This comprehensive list can help senior citizens and their pets find a nearby safe haven: https://lnkd.in/efCApYCx 📷: Duytrg Truong

It's that time of year when we may get hot weather! Never leave your dog in a hot car. Our message is simple – don’t risk it. Whether you are nipping to the shop or going out for a few hours, it is not worth taking the chance. Dogs in hot cars can overheat in minutes. On warm days, even in the shade, temperatures can rise quickly inside a vehicle and this can cause heatstroke or cardiac arrest, which can be fatal. Leaving a bowl of water or a window open is not enough. Some dogs are also more prone to heatstroke than others – such as very old or young dogs, those with thick, heavy coats, or those with short, flat faces (such as pugs and boxers). Certain conditions and medications can also make a dog more vulnerable. Leaving an animal in a hot vehicle can lead to prosecution. If you see a dog looking distressed or is showing signs of heatstroke, contact us on 03000 999 999 and Police Scotland on 999. We need the police to be there as well so that we can force entry to the car if the animal needs to be rescued. The cessation of ALL live transport of animals destined for slaughter MUST happen immediately. The animal industrial complex is one of the greatest threats to climate change.
Lately, over ten dead cows have washed on the Northern French shores. Victims of animal transportation for food. This one had her eartag removed. Possibly she and others were thrown overboard for some reason. (French source: https://lnkd.in/esw33_3N)

🚨 NEEDED: 39 seconds to save 398 beagles The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is paying the University of Missouri (MU) to infest 4-month-old puppies with HUNDREDS of bloodsucking ticks that will feast on these lab dogs with no anesthesia or pain relief. Forty puppies have already been acquired! But MU hasn't purchased all the dogs yet. We have a big opportunity-but a very small window of time to intercept-before MU obtains the other 358 puppies for their torturous lab experiments. To fight back, we've started a new citizen complaint petition to pressure the NIH bosses. YOU can help us wage war against our government's animal abuse. This new federal complaint is our best chance to win-there's strength in numbers! 💪 Isn't this worth just 39 seconds of your day? DEADLINE: Please take action-QUICKLY-to show NIH we mean business before MU purchases the dogs & feeds them to ticks --> a-ction.us/5pexJY #urgent #love #stop #sad #horrible #killing #save #inhuman #murder #beagle
End NIH's taxpayer-funded dog torture!

How would it feel if in your hardest moment, you couldn’t take all of your family with you? There is a well-established connection between animal abuse and intimate partner violence. Recognizing this link is crucial for understanding the opportunity for a comprehensive support system for survivors that includes provisions for pets. Nearly 50% of domestic violence survivors delay leaving a violent situation due to fear for their pet’s safety, and nearly 25% of survivors return due to fear for their pets. Harriet’s Haven for Pets at Tubman ensures the safety of all members of the family, whether they move on 2 legs or 4. You can help families stay together by making a gift to Harriet’s Haven and helping us reach our goal at https://lnkd.in/gs2t86Pf.

4th of July is approaching, and it's crucial to prioritize the safety of our pets during the fireworks festivities. This period often leads to pets getting loose and ending up in shelters. Here are some key tips to ensure the well-being of our furry friends: - Keep your pet securely indoors to shield them from loud noises, flashing lights, and strong smells. - Secure all gates to prevent any chance of escape. - Make sure your contact information is on their collar for easy identification. - Never leave your pet unattended, especially during fireworks displays. Animal control officers across the United States see a 30 to 60% increase in lost pets each year between July 4 and July 5. July 5 is said to be one of the busiest days of the year for animal shelters. Let's all come together and take the necessary precautions to safeguard our beloved pets this Independence Day! 🐾 #PetSafety #4thofJuly #FireworksSafety

Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Refuge4Pets | Researcher specialising in animal abuse as a strategy of coercive control
In 2021 I published research titled Animal Abuse as a Strategy of Coercive Control. 107 victim-survivors of domestic abuse across the UK shared their harrowing experiences and hopes for support. The study highlighted the significance of the human-animal bond and the importance of factoring animals into the safety plans for victims-survivors staying put and leaving. One of the recommendations was to embed animals into the Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC) processes which is exactly what we are doing across Devon and Cornwall with support from our MARAC partners, funders including Devon County Council and Links Group colleagues. In the last 3 months we have directly supported 18% of families discussed at MARAC and this is on the increase as we train more professionals and roll out subtle changes to MARAC administration templates. By asking about the animals and working together we are enabling freedom from domestic abuse for more victim-survivors, both people and animals.
