#BlackHistoryEveryday | SPEAK is honored to highlight the ingenuity of Miriam E. Benjamin, a trailblazing inventor and the second African American woman to receive a patent. Her creation, the Gong and Signal Chair for hotels, revolutionized service by allowing patrons to quietly alert staff with the press of a button, a precursor to systems used in various service industries today. Benjamin's invention not only showcased her innovative spirit but also her dedication to improving efficiency and communication in public spaces. Her legacy as an inventor and pioneer serves as an inspiring example of how creativity and determination can lead to impactful advancements, paving the way for future generations of inventors. We choose to SPEAK black history #beyondFebruary with a commitment to spotlight one black individual daily from now throughout the end of March and then one weekly throughout the year, symbolizing the importance of acknowledging black history every day. Follow the hashtag #SPEAKblackhistory to read about some incredible individuals in the coming weeks and months. #MiriamEBenjamin #InnovativeInventor #GongAndSignalChair #ServiceRevolution #PatentHolder #EfficiencyImprovements #CommunicationInnovation #PioneeringSpirit #LegacyOfIngenuity #InventorPioneer #InspirationForInventors #CreativityAndDetermination #AdvancementsInTechnology #TrailblazerInInnovation #InnovativeLegacy #blackhistory365 #blackhistoryeveryday #ServiceIndustryInnovations #InventiveSpirit #DedicationToImprovement #InventorsOfChange #FutureGenerationsInspired #AdvancementsInCommunication

What does "Reclaiming Narratives" mean to you? #BlackHistoryMonth #LinkedInNewsUK Reclaiming narratives this Black History Month means more than remembering—it's about recovering what was lost and stolen. Our history has been usurped, coopted, and altered to fit a dominant white supremacist narrative. But our story is so much richer: It's millennia of innovation and invention It's boundless creativity and ingenuity It's flourishing despite adversity Black history isn't just about slavery and colonization. It's about: The civilizations we built The technologies we pioneered The art we created The resilience we embodied This month, let's reclaim our full narrative. Let's celebrate not just our struggles, but our triumphs—past, present, and future. It's time to tell our story, in its entirety, by our own voices.

As we honor Black History Month, it's important to recognize that Black history is American history. It is interconnected with the story of our nation, and to understand one is to comprehend the other fully. In every chapter of America's story, Black voices, struggles, and triumphs are connected with the broader narrative. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a time when critical aspects of our history are under attack, particularly in states like Florida where attacks on curriculum focused on Black history and culture persist. These attacks overlook the fundamental truth that Black history is an integral part of the American story. By dismissing the interconnectedness of these narratives, we risk losing a better understanding of our past, present, and future. At Sojourn Strategies, we remain solid in our commitment to fostering a just and equitable society that acknowledges and celebrates the full spectrum of voices, communities, and people that create our world. We advocate for an inclusive approach to education and discourse—one that recognizes the contributions, struggles, and achievements of our communities. Let's continue the fight for a future where a fuller understanding of our shared history paves the way for a more just and equitable world. #BlackHistoryMonth #AmericanHistory #InclusionMatters #SocialJustice #EquityNow #SojournSpeaks

"Kwanzaa is an annual week-long celebration, Dec. 26 - Jan. 1, honoring Black history and culture. The holiday celebrates seven values in African culture: unity, self-determination, collective responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith." Applicable in the journey from #mentaillness to #mentalhealth ? - unity: we are all one, one world, one humanity, one people all inter-connected; - self-determination: freedom to calmly fulfil our purpose in life; - collective responsibility: community valuing equality and inclusion; - cooperative economics: self-explanatory; - creativity; and - faith: in whatever shape or form we may personally prefer including none if that's the choice. Let's move from ego to equality. #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthsupport
