11 Δεκ 2023 #TVPWorld In early December, three commercial ships came under attack in the Red Sea, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. This is not the first time this vital maritime corridor has seen trouble. Could these new attacks be part of an increasingly hostile and dangerous Red Sea? More in our interview with Mark Toth, National Security and Foreign Policy Writer, and Royce de Melo, Middle East and Africa security consultant and analyst.

Don't let this slip through in the Holiday Shuffle! We need your ideas. “How can the service better encourage Marines to accept an assignment to a critical billet in a difficult to fill or less desirable location? What incentives, monetary or otherwise, would encourage you to consider these assignments? How can we improve the assignment process - from initial discussion with your monitor to reporting into your new unit?”

Worth a look. What Australia is doing unbelievably badly is grand strategy. We have none. We have chosen "forward offense" via submarine strike packages and confused that with "forward defense". Our think tanks are fully staffed by complete and total military and strategic imbeciles. We decided to buy a bunch of new ships and cancel their sustainment. I do NOT think this matters. We will have no resupply ships for the new fleet to drive our strike capability and strike packages. This will not actually matter, at all. Our ships will NOT need resupply. The Australian navy will be at the bottom of the South China Sea. Sorry folks. Strategy is a real conversation and not a media bullshit-fest. https://lnkd.in/ghUXtpeK

Shipping is an industry that relies heavily on documentary evidence for its processes. Since Nigerian Navy has taken some of the supervisory roles in the Nigerian space, it must demonstrate an understanding of this space by acting in accordance with the industry's tradition. A situation where naval approval is granted through a signal that cannot be shared with a ship is alien to shipping. How do you expect a Ship Captain to protect his vessel and crew if no process ensures this approval signal is further translated into a verifiable document for him to complete his due diligence? One would have thought that the Heroic Idun case must have triggered such developmental improvements. The ship and crew were punished because a document to enable them to verify approval status did not exist, and they were left only with the words of charterers/Agents. We continue with such practices to the detriment of shipping. One is beginning to think a Coast Guard may focus on things that will develop shipping...... The maritime cluster in our region plays a significant role in the changed security policy landscape we are facing. At GCE Blue Maritime Cluster, we have a high focus on security and preparedness. We aim to increase awareness, knowledge, and competence through seminars and close dialogue with companies, academia, and defense representatives. This collaboration will help us map out effective measures to assist within this segment. The maritime industry plays a central role in strengthening the defense in Norway, and the Norwegian maritime cluster, with its complete and world-leading value chain, has extensive expertise in building, equipping, maintaining, and operating the defense vessels that Norway and NATO need. This places the cluster uniquely positioned to support national and international defense operations.🌐 The government's long-term plan emphasizes the importance of maritime clusters representing the entire value chain. The plan highlights that close collaboration among actors in the clusters can foster innovation. The maritime cluster in our region is known for its strong collaboration across disciplines and for enhancing overall innovation strength. Right now, we should collaborate and innovate for a goal that is slightly larger than ourselves - security and preparedness. No other region in Norway is better equipped to do this than ours.
