[SOME GOOD NEWS] The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has committed to allocate half of its annual lending to climate-finance by 2030. This amount is more than previous target, which was 35%. This ambitious goal is part of a bigger plan to raise $100 billion in total climate finance from the years 2019 through 2030. However, only $30 billion has been confirmed at this point. ADB also plans to expand private sector financing, aiming at $13 billion target by year 2030. #sustainability #climatefinance #netzero #naturepositive

🌏 Exciting News from ADB! 🌱 In 2023, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) made history by committing a record-breaking $9.8 billion in climate finance. This substantial investment aims to assist developing member countries in Asia and the Pacific in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the impacts of climate change. 💪 The commitment includes $5.5 billion for mitigation and $4.3 billion for adaptation, marking a remarkable 46% increase from the bank's 2022 climate financing. What's even more impressive is that ADB has exceeded its 2019-2024 target of $9 billion for adaptation financing a year ahead of schedule, providing over $10.4 billion from 2019 to 2023. 🌊 As the region grapples with extreme heat, droughts, and heavy rains, ADB's dedication to adaptation financing becomes increasingly crucial. Let's applaud these efforts toward a more sustainable and resilient future! 👏🌍 #ClimateAction #ADB #SustainableDevelopment

Fresh into my new assignment in Lao PDR, I had the opportunity this week to gain new insight into how the #privatesector can be assisted to invest in #climateadaptation, #SDGs and #sustainability. ADB has been a steadfast partner of the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum (ACMF) since its inception 20 years ago. This dynamic group of regulators has now gone well beyond the initial remit of integration and development. They have designed ASEAN Sustainability-Linked Bond Standards, the ASEAN SDG Bond Toolkit, and the ASEAN Sustainable and Responsible Fund Standards. For an investor, this means you can tell if the company you are considering meets the benchmark to be considered a #greeninvestment. Next steps include consideration of the ASEAN Carbon Market Study, updates to the ASEAN Transition Guidance and continued collaboration with the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). All these initiatives align themselves with ADB’s climate priorities. As Asia and the Pacific’s #climatebank, ADB focuses strongly on scaling up climate finance and introducing innovative solutions to cut greenhouse gas emissions. With these efforts it aims to catalyze private investors to raise capital for sustainable investments. I look forward to seeing what comes next! #ACMF #ASEAN Photo: Greeting His Excellency Prime Minister of Lao PDR Sonexay Siphandone.
