EU offers €325m for chips R&I - https://lnkd.in/evknxEpJ The European Union’s microchips-focused research and innovation public-private partnership has opened funding calls offering €325 million to “further support Europe’s #semiconductor #industry”. The Chips Joint Undertaking wants industrial players and research organisations to work on photonics (light-based data transmission), microchip competence centres and a cloud-based chip design platform. Participating member states are expected to top up the funding.

Had an amazing time hosting the panel discussion - Rise of Integrated Photonics: A New Frontier, during Photonics@SG 2024, part of Asia Photonics Expo! Here are my key takeaways from the 3-day event: - Exciting to see Singapore on the Photonics map, where companies and experts from around the world can gather to network and exchange ideas. Hope to see more companies from outside Asia taking advantage of this annual show. - Photonics manufacturing needs more attention. It's as important as enabling the technology to be mass-manufactured. Innovators, fabs, and manufacturing entities must work together from the start to drive Photonics & CMOS integration into new frontiers. - Convergence of 3 areas is crucial to drive innovation: development of new material, packaging to take it to market, and most importantly, the talent to make it happen. - There is a talent gap, and we need all stakeholders, universities, private sector, and government especially in Singapoew - to work together to close this gap. With everything that's happening, I see Singapore as a key global innovation hub in photonics, and an exciting period ahead. Looking forward to the next one! Good news! The proposal for the ChipNL Competence Center has been submitted for approval by the European Commission. Our organization has fruitfully and constructively worked together with ChipTech Twente, High Tech NL, Oost NL (as representatives of the ROMs), TNO, imec the Netherlands and JePPIX on writing the proposal for the ChipNL Competence Center. The proposal has been supported by Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development. The main focus is on providing knowledge on semiconductor manufacturing equipment, chip design, integrated photonics, quantum and heterogeneous integration. Therefore, a team has been set up that consists of business developers and supply chain managers who help startups, scaleups, sme’s, application markets and other semiconductor related companies with knowledge dissemination, supply chain coordination towards among others pilot lines and design platform, talent and skills development, internationalization, funding, and innovation programs.
