Today, we’d like to introduce Non-Dispersive Ultraviolet absorption method (#NDUV ), this measuring principle used in the Ozone Monitor APOA-380, which was released this January. ＜Non-Dispersive Ultraviolet absorption method (NDUV)＞ NDUV is a method that utilizes molecular ultraviolet absorption. Since ozone (#O3 ) absorbs UV radiation at a specific wavelength, so this method can be used to measure O₃ gas. Since O₃ gas has a maximum absorption band in the ultraviolet region at 253.7 nm, this wavelength is used to measure its concentration. Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) are gaining traction in clean energy transportation. Their failure can compromise passenger safety, making post-mortem analysis critical for identifying root causes and developing solutions. Conventional analytical instruments often cannot accommodate the large membrane electrode assembly (MEA) used in commercial fuel cells, leading to destructive and time-consuming sample preparation that may introduce contaminants and hinder further analysis. This application note demonstrates how the HORIBA XGT-9000SL, a micro-XRF with an extra-large chamber capacity, can analyze both the elemental composition and distribution of a defective large MEA, providing insights into the degradation process.
