Happy Sunday, friends! This week's message comes from the Birdman himself. One of the most influential skateboarders of all time. A pioneer in the world of modern vertical skateboarding. A professional since age 14, and still a professional now at age 55, he's also an entrepreneur, business owner, and active philanthropist in the skateboarding community. It's none other than Mr. Tony Hawk.    Tony Hawk is one of the few who probably needs no further introduction or explanation. You've undoubtedly heard his name, synonymous with elite skateboarding. Maybe you grew up watching him compete in the X Games, or you grew up playing his video games. Regardless of whether you think you know Tony Hawk or not, this documentary sheds more light on his life story. "Follow famous skater Tony Hawk's personal life, career, and relationship with skateboarding, including never-before-seen footage and unprecedented access to Hawk, along with interviews with figures from the skateboarding world." This week's message sparks the thought of enjoyment and purpose, and letting those two aspects be the compass in whatever path you're on. "To go and lay down in that sense of it" -- A lovely quote from skateboarder Rodney Mullen in the Tony Hawk biopic. Rodney is discussing his purpose for continuing to skate as he gets older; despite challenges with his body, he *has* to skate. Skating is embedded in his live and comes from a deeper purpose. Being connected to your purpose is powerful, giving you a depth and richness to life. Sometimes staying connected to your purpose may cause you to do activities that others question, but they do not know the intangibles that are deeply interwoven with your purpose. Living with purpose gives you a vitality that others can *feel* -- a zest for life that permeates every space you enter. As you move through life in this way, teach others to do the same; the world benefits from more people who are living with purpose! How do trampoline parks affect the Freestyle Trampoline ecosystem? You can think of trampoline parks, like skateboard parks. Athletes pay a small fee to get into the park with their friends by the hour, stand around a ramp or rail, take turns attempting a skill and encourage each other to progress. Flippers throw mats for each other, give tips and tricks to getting past difficult movements and overall encourage each other. It essentially runs like a democracy or peer to peer training. Wouldn't it be interesting if traditional clubs operated in the same way, but with an educated coach overseeing the process? It would give the athletes the independence we all crave, but also can help athletes stay safe. The FTA works with parks that have this exact mentality like @airparc Zillertal looking for the happy medium between tight coaching regulations and utter chaos by training with their staff, offering educational resources for the athletes and coaches and overall making them a valued part of the Flipping community. #trampoline #Equality #peersupport #friends #freestyletrampoline

Bones. Throughout most of my childhood that was my nickname. Growing up I loved skateboarding and always rocked a Bones Brigade t-shirt. Not the bald beauty you know today, but a full on Tony Hawk flop hairstyle. Kick-flipping my way thru adolescence. Flash forward to yesterday and the Olympic Finals of Skateboard Park. Athletes risking life and limb to land the best tricks with amazing style. Not only was it a showcase of incredible talent but a celebration of everything great in the sport. Don't let any legacy stereotypes fool you around the culture of skateboarding. On display yesterday is what the sport is about, a celebration. A celebration of skill, competition, creativity, perseverance and so much more. It's a celebration we should all appreciate and if possible bring into other areas of life. Life, as in the combination of business and personal. The Getty photo here of Keegan Palmer on the shoulders of his competitors captured it so well. Greatness celebrating greatness. I get it. It was fun to skate downtown Evansville or if we were lucky hitting the ditch at Lincoln State Park. You'd push yourself to land that first handrail or smash your shin on a bench grind 50/50. Regardless, when you landed that trick the entire crew with you would celebrate. What can we take away from yesterday? One thing is that life may be an individual sport with support from your people. The opportunity is to find more ways to lift others up. It may sound cheesy but its real and it feels awesome. Like a skater finding his line around the park, everything is a choice. It's a choice to celebrate others or do the right thing. It's also a choice to be a prick. Choose better. Do yourself a favor.
