One question I’m often asked is how much a sponsor’s local presence influences their decision to partner with a team. So, I dove into the data for some of the top markets with multiple major professional sports teams to see what percentage of sponsorship deals come from brands headquartered or with key regional offices in those cities. I think the results show that while being “hometown” can play a part—especially for sponsors like car dealerships or healthcare systems that only serve that market—it does not appear to be the dominant factor many assume.
