🙌 We recently had the honor of hosting a conversation with our truly remarkable CEO, Bratton Riley, who shared pivotal insights about his father's enduring commitment to inclusivity in Charleston and how that ethos has shaped Citibot. Bratton took us back to 1975, when Charleston was in the deep south and his father was making strides for equality, including honoring Martin Luther King day and advocating for African Americans in the state legislature. As he shared, "One of the things he did when he was running for reelection in the state house, he gave his campaign money, with the approval of his donors, to a gentleman named Jim Clyburn... And Jim lost that race, but it helped birth his political career that has transcended, know imagination that Jim may have had at that time." Developing professional and policy understanding of the role of Epi Crim in preventing and responding to sexual abuse Date: 28 June 2024 Time: 09:30 - 15:30 (Registration from 09:00) Venue: EP1, UWE Bristol Frenchay Campus This workshop will focus on the emerging area of Epi Crim (the intersection of public health, health, and social justice) and its links to the prevention and response to sexual abuse regionally and nationally. With respect to sexual abuse, there is a changing narrative regionally, nationally, and internationally towards public health, a community-centred approach that supports prevention and trauma-informed approaches. The work that UWE did in the Emerging Research Excellence (ERE) crystalised this and was one of the first UK studies in this area with this population, resulting in publications and submitted bids that solidified our expertise in this area. The workshop is aimed to help further debate and impact of Epi Crim approaches in general, and in respect to sexual abuse specifically, with the idea of opening reflection on current practices, debates on future policies and practices, as well as offering opportunities for blue sky collaboration. Topics covered within the workshop include: What is Epi Crim & its links to sexual abuse prevention? The role of online communities in the prevention of child sexual abuse Understanding disclosure of sexual violence/abuse across different settings and points of intervention The importance of trauma informed practices, and work forces, in preventing and responding to sexual abuse Workforce development in an Epi Crim framework Restorative practice, restorative justice and recovering from sexual abuse Developing and understanding Key Performance Indicators in Epi Crim approaches to sexual abuse. https://lnkd.in/eQS6YwmJ
