"Today the National Science Board (NSB) MRX gave their initial policy recommendations for merit review, and ARIS is honored to have contributed to the discussion," says Susan Renoe, ARIS executive director. MRX's six policies: 1. National Science Foundation (NSF) merit review remains the gold standard. 2. The two existing criteria meet NSF needs for merit review. 3. Strengthening broader impacts for societal benefit. 4. Strengthening intellectual merit to promote the progress of science. 5. Portfolio monitoring to make sure it is achieving NSF’s goals and mission. 6. Strengthening broadening participation across merit review. Send feedback to meritreviewcommission@nsf.gov. The MRX is collecting feedback through its preliminary report in July and final report in December 2024. #BroaderImpacts
The National Science Board will hold a hybrid meeting May 1 - 2, 2024. The meeting will include two panel discussions, one on AI and one with 2024 Vannevar Bush, Science & Society, and National Science Foundation (NSF) Waterman awardees.
