PocketRN is proud to share that the findings of our clinical study, in conjunction with Stanford Health Care, have been published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research. Titled "A Nurse-Led Care Delivery App and Telehealth System for Patients Requiring Wound Care: Mixed Methods Implementation and Evaluation Study," Samuel Thomas, MD, MSc, our chief medical officer, and Mirini Kim DNP, RN, CPNP-PC, our head of nursing, are co-authors of this paper. During the study, Stanford nurses used the PocketRN virtual nursing platform and novel care delivery model to manage a variety of after-hour patient visits via video chat. These visits included patient-initiated visits to address questions, proactive check-ins to monitor patients and promote care plan adherence, and 48-hour post-op visits to reinforce education and ensure patients were recovering. The study was implemented in both the Advanced Wound Care Center and Vascular Clinic. The study aimed to demonstrate safety, quality, feasibility, and positive provider and patient experience while reducing the administrative burden on in-person staff, integrating with existing clinic workflows, and giving patients access to additional resources and support. The study has shown that PocketRN's novel care delivery model has tremendous benefits for patients, caregivers, nurses, and specialty providers: • 98% patient and nurse satisfaction • 20 vs 5 average minutes spent with patient (on PocketRN vs. clinic phone line) • 85% of visits were from patients proactively managing their care • 30% of patients avoided ED visits Read the full publication here: https://lnkd.in/g2pz7hfV

THIS IS GOOD. We are in a transitional era of healthcare as our traditional delivery models have been upended by provider shortages, increased healthcare complexity, and technology. As the healthcare system continues to evolve, we are evaluating what tasks should be allocated to which profession. To have an efficient healthcare system, no task should be limited to only one professional group simply due to a "first in" position of authority. Surgeons originally fell outside the medical profession, most surgeons were barbers until the professions split in the 18th century. Osteopathic physicians were not recognized as full and active members of the American Medical Association until 1969. The growth of PAs and NPs is not a threat to physicians or the medical establishment, rather another evolution in our constantly changing healthcare landscape. PAs and NPs are valuable members of the healthcare team who should have the autonomy to practice at the top of their scope and license. Practice autonomy does not mean that PAs and NPs have unlimited scope of practice, these are two separate arguments. The role of PAs and NPs is here to stay and will only continue to grow. If Telehealth is not good enough, maybe a hologram will improve the patient experience? Nah. Nevermind. Innovation is more than just doing the same thing different. I love technology, and holograms are cool, but I can’t take myself seriously when sitting in a shoe box. Too many Star Wars flashbacks. “The emperor will see you now, young Jedi.” Besides, a hologram means I have to worry if my socks match. If you can’t see the sincerity in my eyes, or understand the words coming out of my mouth, then whatever is going on below my neck is hardly going to impact your care. This just goes to show that as long as there’s money in the healthcare bucket, there’s a tech company somewhere claiming innovation as they grab it. While we are talking about magic tricks, can someone please explain a few mysteries to me … When did “physicians” become “providers”? “Hospitals” become “providers”? “Everyone in healthcare” become “providers”? “Nurses” become “Care Coordinators”? “Labs” become “Bio-Markers”? “Insurance” become “your deductible”?
