Author, Professor, and Product-Safety Engineer; Ph.D., P.E.; SPSP Secretary; and (very-reluctant) YouTuber
I am reposting this SPSP — Society of Product Safety Professionals instructor profile of Donald Mays because this "Fundamentals of Product Safety" program in September is going to be an excellent overall learning opportunity for attendees. In particular, Don is a great speaker with wide-ranging experiences from which we can all learn--especially, me! He is a regular guest lecturer in my product-safety engineering (and ethics) course in the University of Utah Dept. of Mechanical Engineering every Fall. But, Don is only ONE of the numerous outstanding instructors who will be there to speak and to answer questions. To paraphrase Otto von Bismarck, "it's unnecessary to learn from your own mistakes when you can learn from mistakes made by others." Get a "head start" and learn from those with the bumps and bruises from years of providing safe consumer products to users!!! The early-bird discount is still available until July 1st. #productsafety #productliability #safety
In today’s “Get to Know Your Program Instructor” series, SPSP — Society of Product Safety Professionals is excited to introduce Donald Mays who is teaching "Pre-Sale Issues: Manufacturing Defects." Do you know why this is an important thing to consider in a product safety program? Find out what Don thinks. Early Bird Registration is open until July 1st for this year’s Fundamentals of Product Safety program brought to you by the Society of Product Safety Professionals (SPSP) and generously hosted by Mattel, Inc. at the Fisher-Price Campus in East Aurora, NY, near Buffalo, NY. CAN YOUR DESIGNERS COME OUT AND PLAY? This is a serious question to managers, directors, executives, and attorneys who should be asking themselves about their product designers and product safety. Are product-safety employees encouraged--or even allowed--to "go out and play" with others in their profession. https://lnkd.in/gbDbbTjP If not, your organization may not be doing all it can to deliver safe products to consumers. To meet this need, SPSP — Society of Product Safety Professionals is offering its brand-new "Fundamentals of Product Safety" program this September at Mattel, Inc.'s Fisher-Price facility. I don't like exaggeration, but this is the FINEST product-safety program that I have ever seen. The curriculum is great and eleven product-safety professionals with decades of experience are willingly sharing their "bumps and bruises" from professional practice. Instructors are Larry Bell, Heather Capell Bramble, Boaz Green, Chris Harvey, Mark Hickok, MS, CPSP, CFEI, Donald Mays, Joseph Mohorovic, Cheryl Possenti, Richard Rosati, Kenneth Ross, and me. This is going to be an excellent learning and networking opportunity--especially for younger professionals. Please consider taking this course and follow this link to SPSP's "Fundamentals" program webpage: https://lnkd.in/gSHaM5cA #productsafety #productliability #safety

Environmental Health and Safety Supervisor | 4+ Years Experience in EHS | Manufacturing | Health and Safety | Lead Manufacturing | Aerospace | Automotive | Environmental | Pharmaceutical
Bonus Time! 🤑 Very exciting news! I've recently received a quarterly bonus! 💰 The reason for receiving this monetary incentive was for exceeding Safety Milestones for Quarter 2. 🚩 Our goal was to complete 27 safety related projects/improvements by end of Q2 and we exceeded that goal by completing 35 safety projects! 📈 That means we had a completion of 129% by the end of Q2! What a win! 🚀 I have to admit that this was a company-wide effort, and everyone went above and beyond to get really creative and completed projects that targeted the following: 1.✅ Mitigating risks or hazards from workstations. 2.✅ Increased 5S lean standards. (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) 3.✅ Improved overall environmental compliance. 4.✅ Addressed ergonomic risks. 5.✅ Enhanced accessibility to first aid resources. 6.✅ Eliminated slip, trip, and fall hazards. I am beyond proud of my team and all that we accomplished for Quarter 2 to receive this incentive. 😃 I do have to take some credit and say I lead all safety projects and I made sure I was a constant resource to all my leads, managers, and employees to ensure we exceeded expectations! Again, I couldn't have done it without their relentless effort! 🙋♂️ 🤝 Kudos to all my colleagues who are safety champions for hitting this awesome milestone! 🍾 Stay safe! 🦺

ℹ️‼️Quick takeaways on my visits to used clothing sorting facilities‼️ 1. There are various quality standards that are put in place such as: random spot checks on the clothes that are sorted. On average clothes are checked more than 400 pieces per sorter per grade. The acceptable margin of error has to be under 5% - and error as defined putting a wrong piece of cloth in the wrong grade (could be to a higher grade or a lower grade) 2. Sorters who make 5% error or more will be marked with performance issue - which means supervisors are alerted. Most checks would be done on this sorter and trainings are immediately provided! 3. Inspection company comes and also open bales to do the same inspection again and seal the containers before it can be send off to other countries! Check out this video below! On how clean and formal this sector is!
