Author, Professor, and Product-Safety Engineer; Ph.D., P.E.; SPSP Secretary; and (very-reluctant) YouTuber
I am reposting this SPSP — Society of Product Safety Professionals instructor profile of Donald Mays because this "Fundamentals of Product Safety" program in September is going to be an excellent overall learning opportunity for attendees. In particular, Don is a great speaker with wide-ranging experiences from which we can all learn--especially, me! He is a regular guest lecturer in my product-safety engineering (and ethics) course in the University of Utah Dept. of Mechanical Engineering every Fall. But, Don is only ONE of the numerous outstanding instructors who will be there to speak and to answer questions. To paraphrase Otto von Bismarck, "it's unnecessary to learn from your own mistakes when you can learn from mistakes made by others." Get a "head start" and learn from those with the bumps and bruises from years of providing safe consumer products to users!!! The early-bird discount is still available until July 1st. #productsafety #productliability #safety
In today’s “Get to Know Your Program Instructor” series, SPSP — Society of Product Safety Professionals is excited to introduce Donald Mays who is teaching "Pre-Sale Issues: Manufacturing Defects." Do you know why this is an important thing to consider in a product safety program? Find out what Don thinks. Early Bird Registration is open until July 1st for this year’s Fundamentals of Product Safety program brought to you by the Society of Product Safety Professionals (SPSP) and generously hosted by Mattel, Inc. at the Fisher-Price Campus in East Aurora, NY, near Buffalo, NY. Program dates: September 11, 12, and 13 To learn more, visit: https://lnkd.in/gWFxUhrt #productsafety #productliability #safety

Do you feel like you are fire fighting? Trying to support your new starters in NPD, but you’re busy and it’s hard to give them the attention and support they need. They may not be asking for help because they don’t want to cause any problems, but you can tell they are struggling. They are making mistakes which fall on you. They lack understanding which means you have to explain, and explain again. It doesn’t have to be so stressful. Our NPD course teaches your team all the principles of the NPD Stage Gate process. We will show them what they need to do to successfully take an idea from consumer need and concept, all the way through to launch. Yesterday, KID released two reports assessing recall effectiveness – one analyzing the monthly reports that companies send (sometimes) to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission about the status of a recall, and a consumer survey on attitudes towards recalls. (link in comments) But how do we prevent recalls in the first place? One resource is the KID Design Safety Toolkit, a free online course to educate children's product developers how to design potential hazards out of the product before it's on the market, to prevent injuries, deaths, and recalls.
