How much GenAI do we all want to see directly on screen? Do we want Ashton Kutchers future when he told Variety "Instead of watching some movie that somebody else came up with, I can just generate and then watch my own movie." I think we are on a precipice not on what technology can achieve, but on what people at home want to watch. Like a lot of things this is going to play out on social media first, with a huge influx of full GenAI content like the below, which is too irresistible for brands and creators who are looking to sell products and services and gain likes as quickly as possible. When Tiktok has more fully Gen AI reels than reels shot on camera, when Instagram has so many AI generated photos you are not sure what is real any more, Will people start to turn social media off? Why the f*ck is my fyp covered in AI dolphins? There truly is never a dull moment over on TikTok. For those of you who aren't chronically online, but want to keep in the loop, here are the three trends that have been gracing my screen this past week. 1. I JUST WANT TO BE YOUR SYMPHONY 🎶🐬 (the girls that get it, get it). This meme combines Clean Bandit's song "Symphony", an AI image of dolphins, and text that I can only describe as grim. It's PEAK Gen Z humour, but I honestly can't even explain it. If you want to get a feel for this trend, you'll have to pop on TikTok and do some scrolling. 2. Did you know you only have 30 minutes? That's what the audio of this trend tells us, with creators lip-syncing to the sound while adding text to the screen. The crux of the joke is situations where you're running out of time, and people are getting niche with it. It really encapsulates my generation's feeling of impending doom. This is trend is perfect for if your brand has a relatable/funny content pillar. 3. Caught running from the police. Gen Z obviously have a love-hate relationship with the cops. In this trend, users are running from the camera with text stating: “I’m running from the police but I hear… *insert ultra-specific compliment.*” I haven't really seen that many brands hop on this one. To be honest, it’s nearly at the end of its cycle so if you haven’t jumped on it now, you’ve probably missed the boat. This week’s TikTok trends have to be the toughest ones I’ve ever had to describe. I mean, AI dolphins, seriously?
