Pediatricians are on the front lines of child health and development, and they are uniquely positioned to see the effects of social media on young people. In fact, pediatricians agree they should help parents understand the impact social media has on the mental health of their children, according to recent survey data from MAP MD™️ #SSCGMediaGroup, #HCPresearch, #MAPMD, #socialmedia, #mentalhealth

Join us on Wed 19th June for our next free #ConversationSpace chat, which will explore all things relating to capacity of VCSE services in perinatal mental health, thresholds and gaps across the landscape. We're hearing from lots of VCSEs that there's pressure felt (quite viscerally) across the system due to stretched statutory services, funding challenges & a rise in demand for support. Many of our services are designed to support parents experiencing mild-moderate mental health issues, but we know in reality our reach extends much further and we often find ourselves holding parents with complex needs in our care. Rooted in local communities, VCSEs are often the first port of call for the most vulnerable and marginalised families. This is an opportunity to discuss ethical and practical decisions around referrals, resourcing and thresholds. It's not an easy conversation, which is why we're creating a trusted space with a cap on attendees to enable an honest chat in a safe, welcoming environment. Compassionate Kids & Youth Social Worker | Specializing in Trauma Informed Care | Dedicated to Healing and Empowerment.
"Addressing Self-Harm and Suicide in Youth. A Trauma-Informed Perspective" As a dedicated Kids & Youth Social Worker specializing in Trauma-Informed Care, I find it crucial to discuss sensitive topics that often remain shrouded in silence. Today, I want to shed light on self-harm and suicide among children and adolescents, subjects that demand our immediate and compassionate attention. Self-harm and suicidal thoughts are often misunderstood as attention-seeking behaviors. However, they are, in fact, manifestations of deeper emotional distress and trauma. It's essential to approach these issues not with judgment, but with understanding and empathy. In my experience, providing a safe and supportive environment is key to helping young individuals express their feelings and experiences. This includes actively listening, validating their emotions, and offering them a sense of hope and understanding. It's about creating a space where they feel seen, heard, and valued. Moreover, early intervention and education play a pivotal role. Awareness programs in schools and communities, along with accessible mental health resources, can make a significant difference. It's about empowering not just the youth but also parents, educators, and peers to recognize the signs and provide the appropriate support. We must remember, every conversation we have, every support system we build, brings us one step closer to breaking the stigma and potentially saving lives. If you're working with children and adolescents, I encourage you to stay informed, be vigilant, and most importantly, be kind. Our empathy and understanding can be the very lifeline a young person needs. #YouthMentalHealth #TraumaInformedCare #MentalHealthAwareness #SuicidePrevention #ChildWelfare

The challenges of #adolescent_motherhood cannot be overlooked. With 12 million females aged 15-19 giving birth in low- and middle-income countries in 2017, mental health risks like #depression, #anxiety, and substance dependence are heightened. This paper sheds light on the complex interplay of factors, including shifting roles, societal stigma, and underdeveloped coping skills, that contribute to these risks. By understanding these challenges and providing tailored support systems, we can empower #young_mothers to break the cycle of mental health struggles and create a better future for themselves and their children. This work highlights the importance of investing in maternal and child health initiatives to shape a more equitable tomorrow. 🌍👴👵🧠According to the World Health Organization, key facts we need to keep in mind regarding the mental health of older adults include the following: •By 2030, one in six people worldwide will be aged 60 years or over. •Loneliness and social isolation are risk factors for mental health conditions in later life. •One in six older adults experiences abuse, often by their own caregivers. •Approximately 14% of adults aged 60 and over live with a mental disorder. •Mental disorders among older adults account for 10.6% of the total years lived with disability for this age group. The mission of the EDU-MENT project is to sustainably improve the quality of mental health care for older adults in need by empowering registered nurses to recognise, understand, and professionally manage psychosocial and behavioral changes. This is achieved through innovative approaches and better training for care staff without psychiatric qualifications. Stay tuned with us to learn more about the progress of our project. #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthAwareness #NursingTraining #EDUMENT #ErasmusPlus

Approximately 1 in 5 teens aged 12-18 suffer from a mental health disorder. #HEAA, introduced by @CAPAC, @TheBlackCaucus, and @HispanicCaucus, will combat mental health disparities in youth by: 🧸Increasing funding for the NIH to carry out the Strategic Framework For Addressing Youth Mental Health Disparities. 🧸Direct the HHS Secretary to study and report on the AANHPI youth mental health crisis. 🧸Increasing the number of entities eligible for grants supporting pediatric behavioral health care. Let’s work towards ending the health disparities in our country. #HEAA paves the way for affordable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare, increasing the health and well-being of underserved and marginalized communities. #healthequityforall
