Exciting Clean Energy News! A landmark report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) today revealed that booming investment in the manufacturing of clean energy technologies, especially solar PV and batteries, is creating new opportunities for industrialization and employment across the globe. In fact, the first-of-its-kind analysis titled, “Advancing Clean Technology Manufacturing” finds that global investment in the manufacturing of five key clean energy technologies – solar PV, wind, batteries, electrolysers and heat pumps – rose to US$200 billion in 2023. This reflects an increase of more than 70% from 2022 that accounted for around 4% of global GDP growth. As a result of these investments, the report finds that solar PV module manufacturing capacity today is already in line with what is needed in 2030 based on the IEA’s net zero emissions scenario. The report, produced in response to a request from G7 Leaders in 2023, also provides guidance for policy makers as they prepare industrial strategies with a strong focus on clean energy manufacturing.
