International Women’s Day 2024  Most Influential Women 2024 Sustainability Awards Friday 8th March 2024 (ONLINE) https://lnkd.in/eFk-6VDV The conference theme will follow the theme selected by the UN for this year’s celebration “Count Her In: Accelerating Gender Equality Through Economic Empowerment”, recognizing the contribution of women and girls around the world to build a more sustainable future for all. Clearly, women have an untapped potential as a primary mover of greater development across the world and their role is very crucial for increased development, but challenges remain. And so, reforms in economic, social, and political institutions must be made to create an enabling environment for women participation and empowerment.

The Female Quotient’s #EqualityLounge at #COP28 brought together purpose-led leaders driving climate progress. Over 16 panels addressed closing the eco gender gap through women’s empowerment. I'm grateful to all the ethical changemakers who participated, especially my co-panellists Aimée Christensen, Niyanta Spelman, Tine Riis Horwitz, Shanna Tova O'Reilly and Lauren Mclean. A special acknowledgment to my partner, Dr. Tatiana Kazakova, who shared valuable insights during the Advancing Gender Equality in Climate Action panel. Appreciation extends to co-panellists Ann Rosenberg, Natalia Vega-Berry, Mary Jo W., Valeska Hernandez, Lauren Faber O'Connor, and Steven Goldbach for contributing to the impactful discussion. The conversations built on data revealing the direct link between women’s inclusion, resilient communities, and emissions reductions. Speakers offered solutions like cleantech investment vehicles securing female founders and policy roadmaps engaging female stakeholders. By demonstrating courageous leadership, The Equality Lounge modelled how we can accelerate renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and climate justice when diverse voices participate. The forum left me confident that progress is possible when leaders unite across perceived barriers in moral purpose. Let us carry forward this conviction and continue expanding the table for marginalized groups. #ClimateAction #GenderEquality #EthicalLeadership

Smart Holding has joined the United Nations Global Compact, a worldwide pact designed to accelerate the implementation of universal sustainable and socially responsible practices. It is an important announcement that sets the tone for our work for the new year, and confirms our intention to become a proactive and conscious player in the development of our country. We will initially focus on implementing 8 out of 17 Global Goals - those that are relevant to the Holding and individual businesses, from partnership for sustainable development and economic growth to gender equality and climate change. Business does not exist in a vacuum. We are aware of our impact on the economy, labour market, environment and the formation of sustainable processes in the regions in which we operate. Smart Holding promotes responsibility in all areas where we can become a driver of transformation or positive change. We are principled in this regard, both in our work before the full-scale invasion and in the post-war reconstruction, which we are already actively working on with international partners. Therefore, joining the UN Global Compact is a conscious public step in the right direction, and one that will ensure our firm commitment to a sustainable future.

International Women's Day is a chance to celebrate women, promote gender equality and challenge discrimination. However, in recent years, the meaning of International Women's Day (IWD) has been contorted. Now acting as a corporate echo chamber, the female experience is disregarded in favour of performative 'allyship'. This capitalist takeover of IWD discredits its origins and trivialises it. International Women's Day is supposed to be a focal date for the women's rights movement. Calling to attention the issues women have faced and continue to face. Moving forward, we hope that IWD receives a much-needed renewal. Focusing the day on discussing women's issues. Opening discourse to generate action. Enacting the change we want to see. In the meantime, we'd like to spotlight women who are dominating the climate space and creating the change we want to see: 🌟 Vandana Shiva Shiva is an Indian physicist, ecologist, social activist, and author. In 1982, Shiva founded the Research Foundation for Science, Technology, and Natural Resource Policy, an organisation devoted to developing sustainable methods of agriculture. In addition, Shiva founded Navdanya, an earth-centric, women-centric, and farmer-led movement for the protection of biological and cultural diversity. 🌟 Isatou Ceesay Ceesay is a Gambian environmental activist and recycling advocate, affectionately referred to as the Queen of Recycling. She initiated the recycling movement 'One Plastic Bag in the Gambia', which combats the pollution caused by plastic bags in her community. 🌟 Bianca Pitt Pitt is a British activist and campaigner who co-founded SHE Changes Climate. With a former career in law and corporate finance, Pitt often discusses how motherhood became a turning point, causing her to take a keen interest in the collapse of our ecosystems. Leveraging her network, Pitt co-established SHE Changes Climate, an environmental service that advocates for female representation at all levels of climate decision-making. 🌟 Christiana Figueres  Currently leading the UNFCCC, Christiana Figueres is a powerhouse in the climate movement. Previously, Figueres has steered world leaders to reach the Paris Agreement in 2015 and has frequently been successful in shedding light on the intersection of gender inequality in climate change. Tune into Figueres' podcast, Outrage + Optimism, to hear more about the complexity of the climate crisis. 🌟 Clover Hogan Climate activist and the founder of Force of Nature, Clover Hogan is a prominent figure. The non-profit organisation focuses on inspiring young people to take action on climate change by mobilising their mindsets. Recently, Hogan has launched season three of The Force of Nature's podcast: Confessions of a Climate Activist. As Hogan puts it, 'We don't need a hundred perfect activists, but millions of imperfect ones'. #womeninaction #internationalwomensday2024 #iwd

Today on UN Climate Change #COP28 Gender Equality Day, we announced the new Women Energy Leaders (#WEL) program in partnership with the United States Energy Association to increase women’s leadership in Southeast Asia and the Pacific’s clean energy workforce, #empoweringwomen to become leaders and agents for change to support #decarbonization and the #cleanenergytransition. The Women Energy Leaders project will equip women with crucial technical and leadership skills for professional advancement through a mentorship program, workshops, capstone projects, job shadows, and executive coaching in support of the U.S. National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality and broader U.S. government efforts unveiled at #COP28 to address the disproportionate impacts of #climatechange on women and girls. 🚀
