Grow where you are … I was recently on vacation and as we were waiting for the trolley, I looked up and noticed this plant. This little girl was doing her own thing at the best of her own drum, she even sprouted a colorful flower. It reminded me that we can grow where we are. So many times, I think it’s easy to say … 💥When the kids get older, I will be able to work out 💥Once we get a little more money, I will be able to do (x) 💥Someday I will finish that certification or degree When….Once….Someday … those times don’t always come, DO IT TODAY.

Sports has changed ... Of course you have heard me talk about how sports has changed and we should be looking at youth sports from a different perspective, but the facilities have greatly changed as well. Many communities are still running their sports programming from facilities that do not offer some of the current trends, mainly due to lack of finances. I will be touching on this topic in upcoming articles and episodes on my podcast (Sports Development Authority) My latest article in Youth Sports Business Report talks about some of the ways that facility design has changed over the years. "It's how we have always done it..." That phrase is about as 'out of date' as the sports programming that many organizations and municipalities still offer. "As I work with organizations and communities, I find that many of the programs are the same as they were when I was a player. Offering the same programming as we had 30+ years ago no longer works. Sports programs that fail to evolve and adapt to changing trends and preferences may struggle to attract and retain participants."

EQ seems to be a buzz word lately…… I’ve been hearing it a lot over the past few years, more and more in the recent months. These 24 signs aren’t always a given for someone, however SPORTS can play a huge role is helping to develop many of these skills. They can be learned so your player/child can have a high EQ. Get them involved .. Reach out to local rec centers for community programming, YMCAs, schools or various other avenues to find out how. Still not sure? Excited to share that I was asked to contribute to an online resource focused on youth sports. Check out my first article regarding the need for youth sports facilities in a community. (link in the comments) Youth sports play a crucial role in developing the physical, mental, and social well-being of children. They instill essential life skills like discipline, teamwork, and resilience. The quality and availability of sports facilities significantly impact the effectiveness and accessibility of youth sports programs. Thus, investing in state-of-the-art sports facilities is an investment in the future of our children.

Messy drawers = disorganized thoughts …. I once heard that if you look in someone’s cupboards, you can learn a lot about them. I have never forgotten that. Both of these drawers are mine and in the same kitchen. One is very organized and offers the typical solutions and junk drawer would and should offer, it’s been organized that way since I did it. I sometimes open it and see something out of place and I quickly move it so that the drawer stays tidy. This drawer makes me happy. The other is mass chaos and has so many utensils in it that often one will become turned just right and make it impossible for the drawer to shut. There are utensils in there that probably haven’t been used in the 14 years we have lived here. However, it takes me no time to find the exact utensil that I need when I need it - because it’s my disorganized mess. Both of these drawers are a reflection of me. I have a math mind and love logistics, puzzles, sudoku, making my mind think outside its own box in a problem-solving kind of way. But I also have an artistic mind and love creating, getting messy with paint, building, sewing, and finding ways to keep my mind engaged in the arts. I often wonder if I was challenged more as a kid or if parents and teachers embraced my ‘inability to stay seated’ what would have been different for me? Why has society created the ‘box’ for paths ? I think that ‘box’ is what creates burnout - whether in sports or life or a career. We have to do better while they are young … remembering it’s ok to P•I•V•O•T and make changes, no matter the age. “Doing it the way it’s always been done” doesn’t work anymore! #youthsports #womeninsports #entrepreneur
