Forget the suitcase! 🧳 Have you ever seen ads or heard about programs that supply kids in foster care with suitcases to make it so they can move with more dignity than throwing all of their belongings in a trash bag? That's such a tangible concept to imagine - of course, kids shouldn't have their things in garbage bags. But those ads always make us wonder "What if there were a healthy, familiar grown-up attached to that suitcase?" Isn't that what they really need? Someone consistent they can trust and who knows their story. ✅ Someone who knows what book they're on in the Wings of Fire series, ✅ who knows their favorite type of muffin (not blueberry, cuz mushy fruit=gross), ✅ someone who knows their favorite song ...someone who knows them, and will show up no matter what? Counting down the days until Colorado Gives Day! Day 3: Join us on this journey as we hear from a remarkable individual, Jessie, a past participant in our Success Thru Connections mentorship program. Remerg’s Success thru Connections is an annual mentorship program for previously incarcerated individuals that offers them support, direction, and connections. Our program helps people pursue their goals in life, whether it’s establishing a company, a nonprofit, creating a product, or advancing in their careers. Members of Success thru Connections get together once a month to have lunch together, hear from a guest speaker, discuss challenges they’ve faced, and build relationships with one another. We are grateful that Jessie allowed us to reflect his story. His experience is a testament to the power of second chances and the impact of meaningful connections. This month's nonprofit Spotlight is Habitat for Humanity: I got to sit down with Berkeley Donnelly and learn about the ways this organization can help, and also hear about the impact they've already made. Here's what we discussed: Q. What is one thing you want our community to know about this organization? A. ReStore. It's a store where the community can shop for furniture, household items, and building supplies. They also accept donations for these items as well so when you are decluttering or reorganizing the house and have some extra items you no longer need, please think of ReStore. Q. How many were you able to help in 2023? A. They built one 1,200sqft home for a family of 6. Kids were ages 6mo to 9yrs. Q. What brought you to this organization? A. God. Berkeley was a new single mom working at several different part time jobs when God lead her here. She was the last interview of the day, got the job, and has now been here for 5 years and loving the job. Q. What big events do you have coming up in 2024? A. They are working on 3 home projects this year and recently purchased 2 more lots for 2025. Q. How can we help? A. Spread the word! The organization struggled through Covid and are now finally picking back up again.
