We had an incredible experience at the 2024 Region 6 Student Symposium last month! Our team obtained several awards:
🏆 First Place - Cost Estimation
🥈 Second Place - Lightness
🥉 Third Place - Aesthetics
🥉 Third Place - Construction Speed
Thanks to our remarkable success, we're thrilled to announce that we're advancing to the nationals!
Our achievements have paved the way for this incredible opportunity. None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Your belief in our mission has propelled us forward, and we're immensely grateful! Thank You!

From Graduate to Project Manager - something we talk about to students and graduates all the time and no better way than hearing from one of our Project Managers Trent, who has been through this journey himself.
#graduateprogram #graduatedevelopment
Meet Trent, whose love of plane mechanics inspired his journey into engineering. ✈
Starting as a Graduate Engineer in 2013, Trent swiftly climbed the ranks and is now a Project Manager.
Reflecting on his journey, Trent is grateful for the opportunities and friendships he has forged. Here's to many more milestones ahead!

I had a great time facilitating a workshop entitled, "Practical Metacognitive Strategies for the College Classroom" at the 2024 Teaching, Learning, & Technology Conference (TLTCon 24). Many thanks to attendees for the great thoughts you shared throughout the session! 😊

#TLT One of the best virtual conference I've attended. Thank you College of Charleston for a great event! Tolulope (Tolu) N. led an impactful session - I can't wait to share what I've learned from her and the other presenters these past two days and start implementing new strategies to enhance my instruction.
I've been sharing with donors and prospective donors this week that Forsyth Technical Community College has been certified as an Achieving the Dream Leader College. The most common question has been, what does that mean?
Short Answer: This is a recognition of the impact Forsyth Tech has made and continues to make by embracing and emboldening our institutions Trailblazing Spirit.
Long Answer: Being a Forsyth Tech Trailblazer means being part of a dynamic and forward-thinking community that values innovation, inclusion, and success. Trailblazers at Forsyth Tech are students and learners who are actively engaged in shaping their futures through education and personal development. They are driven, ambitious, and determinated to succeed, not just in their academic pursuits but also in their future careers and contributions to community empowerment and transformation.
As Trailblazers, students faculty and staff at Forsyth Tech are encouraged to push boundaries, explore new ideas, and embrace opportunities for growth and learning. They are part of an institution that supports their journey towards achieving their goals, while offering the tools, resources, and guidance needed to navigate their educational and career paths successfully.
Forsyth Tech's commitment to being "A Place of Promise" is an integral component of the Trailblazer ethos. Striving to provide an environment where every student is empowered to forge their own path, overcome obstacles, and reach their full potential. This includes providing equitable access to education, fostering a culture of excellence, and preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of the modern world.
In essence, being a Trailblazer at Forsyth Tech means being an active participant in a journey of transformation – personally, academically, and professionally – in an environment that champions innovation, inclusivity, and success.
That is how we lead and why this recognition is an honor.
Have you heard?! Forsyth Tech has been named 1 of 10 colleges in the US as an Achieving the Dream LEADER COLLEGE! We celebrated through drone photo at our faculty & staff All Team Day! Thanks to all the elected officials and others who came to celebrate with us! #APlaceOfPromise
Time certainly seems to have flown! As our image this year we have chosen a rendition of the powerful (and very unsteady) vortical structures that we believe are formed in the outwash below many eVTOL aircraft when they are operated close to the ground. The hovering twelve-rotor eVTOL aircraft that produced this pattern can just be seen at the top left of the image.
Note particularly the concentration of these structures diagonally downwards to the starboard side of the aircraft - this concentration is indicative of a particularly strong jet of air out across the ground in that direction.
The existence of these sorts of features in their outwash is one of the reasons why the aerodynamics of eVTOL aircraft is very different to that of most helicopters. Designers, operators, and, perhaps most of all, vertiport developers, will need to take the particular aerodynamic characteristics of this new class of vehicles firmly to heart when considering how safe their operations will turn out to be in practice.
As we celebrate our 9th birthday, Sophrodyne Aerospace reflects on a year of real progress and discovery. A heart-felt thank you to all our supporters, friends and colleagues for the hours spent discussing, debating and learning with us.
Curious about the transformative power of the MBV program at USC?
Dive deep into the inspiring stories of our veterans who have journeyed through the Master of Business for Veterans (MBV) program. These are just a few examples of students who experienced growth and success within the USC community and beyond. Huge thanks to George Page, Amy Fitzgerald, and Ahmed Adeyemi for sharing your stories.

We already thought we were awesum. But now we are sure 🙌: Sumthing is officially B corp certified! 🔥
What a journey it has been. A journey that was not easy, but always fulfilling. And with an outcome that brought us the highly sought after window sticker…eh…stamp 😅💪 as proof of that we are doing the right thing.
In our latest blogpost (link in the comments), we share why and how we pursued B corp certification, and our outlook for the future. Part of that outlook is to set up partnerships with other B corps to level up our shared impact. Feel addressed? Drop us a note and let’s talk! 🙋♂️

Chapter Three drops tomorrow with Cayman Islands Shipping Registry and it is a masterclass in what a Flag State Registry actually does - you won't want to miss it. In the meantime here is Ken Hickling's Quick Fire Challenge with the wonderful James Roy from Lateral Naval Architects. For me this episode/chapter was one of the most intimate we did, it shows how passion for this industry can start in childhood and with the correct guidance, training and apprenticeships the future leaders of this small, niche, highly specialized industry will be created. I often hear how we are loosing the best people to aerospace, automotive and tech industries and this is something that unless we address quickly is going to be a major problem in a generation or less. You'll hear Ken talk about Solent University and University of Southampton and these institutions are at the centre of addressing this issue, we need more real discussions and opportunities to produce the highest level technical and artisinal skill base right now. My hope is that this series is one of the voices in making this happen. #careers #marine #architects #engineering
“It was only when the graduate committee became more diverse that the graduate student population became more diverse… Having a more diverse committee brought better results in terms of who was admitted.”
Gilda Barabino (NAE), president of the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, discusses positive impacts of diverse graduate committees in the newest episode of NAE’s Diversity Dialogues.
