The way we currently teach AAPI histories (when we do) leads to real world harm. When Asian American and Pacific Islander students see their community members exclusively painted as a threat when mentioned, and otherwise disappeared from the rest of their textbooks, that causes serious mental and emotional harm. And it has major impacts on these students’ social and educational outcomes. Read more: https://bit.ly/3KlsdOv

Today, the American Historical Association released a major report with findings from the most comprehensive study of secondary US history education undertaken in the 21st century. AHA researchers appraised standards and legislation in all 50 states, conducted a survey of over 3,000 middle and high school US history educators, interviewed over 200 teachers and administrators, and reviewed thousands of pages of instructional materials from small towns to sprawling suburbs to big cities. The report provides empirical evidence and rigorous analysis to inform current debates over how history is taught in our schools. A key takeaway: the AHA did not find indoctrination, politicization, or classroom malpractice.

Anyone interested in what's happening with HOW history of the USA is being taught to students in the USA, THIS is your BEST resource, directly available online from the American Historical Association. Don't skip. Do not let Moms for Liberty-types confuse you about TRUTH. Catch some reality. Love to learn as a way of life. Dig in. Understand that CRT, Critical Race "theory" has forever been a misnomer. What WE grapple with is Critical Race Truth. Academia and others need to clean up this confusion big time. What happened in baby USA is NOT a theory. We do not study from where we have come from in order to point fingers. What a colossal waste of time if this were the goal. We study because of Sankofa- that we cannot well move forward without looking backwards. Any rich white men telling you to stop looking back desires you to continue with blinders, blinders YOU did NOT place upon yourself. Forever in our infant country, whitewashing history has been standard, with many facts about the truth of matters asserted shrouded, ignored, left out, covered up. Purposefully. We enter a new phase of reality. Some may continue to wander around in overflowing nappy hoping things will even out when indeed, it is ONLY AS WE STUDY the Whole that we can then dissect the parts. We CAN show the world we have graduated to pull-ups. Kids deserve to know the WHOLE truth...not just the parts you think are "OK." Today's Youngers are far more connected to truth that you think, despite familial, community or other forces desiring they look away. Only when we mire their ability to learn do we stand in the way of TRUTH. Read up! You'll never regret the time you spent learning. Then, no matter who, VOTE BLUE. Tell others, too. #truth

In a post on X announcing the guidance, Mr. Walters sought to crack down on any resistance, saying “We will not allow rogue districts and administrators to indoctrinate hatred of America by refusing to teach foundational Oklahoma standards.” He added, “The left does not like it, but it will be taught.” The New York Times No, Mr. Walters, Educators do not like it. You can't successfully teach the Constitution and the Bible in a public school as primary texts. You are doing a disservice to our youth; you are a logical abomination. Your personal desire for a Christian Nation is different from a foundational education of our multicultural nation. Your "standards" are personal beliefs, not a defensible societal curriculum, and you are acting contrary to our founding documents. Oh, and the fact you are announcing your state policy on X belies any seriousness or legitimacy of your motivations or methods. Oklahoma: Closed for business, and apparently, logic.

One tip for whyde ppl, speak like Marlon about the stuff you don’t know. Be vulnerable and show clearly what your intent is whenever speaking about equality and justice for all. As Marlon does right here like: - Don’t listen to me, I should listen to you, - I still have allot to learn and somewhat ashamed of being so uneducated, since this man could’ve been my son, - Telling how he wants to be an ally and what commitment comes with it - Showing what fears him if nothing is done Starting from that point will give you an audience full of likeminded students like you and even more so dedicated teachers who gladly share their important truths with you. And don’t be afraid to say something wrong, since you made sure that you and your surroundings are aware of not knowing all. Not knowing doesn’t come across as not interested or arrogance, but rather as a chance for enlightenment.

One of the most consistent challenges I had as an educator was finding vetted, high-quality resources for the classroom and small group interventions with my students. Normally, it took far too long to find the resources that would be most helpful, or the curriculum/content that had been provided to me was bland and felt irrelevant to my students' lives. Today, The Asian American Foundation launched one of the most in-depth, beautiful and (most importantly) helpful Resource Hubs for advancing AAPI history into the classroom. As more state policymakers realize the importance of teaching a fuller, richer version of American history and pass legislation to ensure this history is taught, resources like this one will be incredibly useful to every educator inside and outside the classroom to help our students learn. Check out the Resource Hub below! https://lnkd.in/errVfjmJ
