One image to illustrate how the car industry is 'innovating' itself out of relevance to the urban landscape. I cannot imagine that auto execs have not done the maths on what happens next. Inevitably, surely. There's a danger when the marketing becomes so strong that you start to believe the exaggerated bits; that is that there are no negative externalities to society when you produce a product. This design equates to more road deaths and agitation on the streets/pavements, more pollution, more natural resources used, more congestion, more economic burden to all of us as a result. Very often it moves the same single person that far smaller and less complex to produce vehicles can. How brief must that moment of enjoyment be to own something so fundamentally useless and crippling to today's world? In 1990 there were 20 million cars on the road in the UK. That's now doubled and is projected to reach 50 million by 2030. Show me where you'll put 10 million more of these (SUVs remain the fastest-growing car sales type). I've been reading a lot lately about generational divides, income, housing, all sorts of things that would seem to suggest that the automotive industry is going to need to change tack to stay relevant to where people live in future. Populations grow around where there is work - cities, mostly. The income and wealth divide has grown by a startling wedge in the last five years in particular. As part of that, one book (Against Landlords) suggests that living spaces have dropped in size by around a third in the past 20 years and with that developers are packing more into less. With that comes a realisation of just how impossible it is to cater for a vehicle like this. Buildings, increasingly, do not cater for this at all. Not to mention there's next to no hope of Gen Z (the future customer) affording something like this in the context of a serious transport method. Bigger/more is not always better. I have a feeling we're in the right space for personal mobility, despite some headwinds that look challenging. Of course, the automotive industry's arrival in our space already occurred long ago. Peak car has been acknowledged, accounted for, even, but perhaps not whole-heartedly committed to. How long until that happens? On the mathematics of the reality of driving in urban areas and sales forecasts alone, I suspect it cannot be long.

One of the *many* reasons to incorporate Euler angles into your motion simulation - pit stops! The first time I experienced this in iRacing.com many years ago, it was pure joy. #rigidbodydynamics #nascar #iracing #pitstop

Interesting Illustration of how rapidly vehicle sizes have grown in the past half a century. Roads and infrastructure originally designed for smaller vehicles now require upgrades to accommodate wider and heavier cars. Parking facilities need redesigning to handle larger dimensions, and traffic management systems must be updated to ensure smooth flow and safety. Additionally, larger vehicles contribute to increased wear and tear on road surfaces, necessitating more frequent maintenance and robust construction standards.

Is this a demand issue or a supply issue?? Logically, for cars to be more eco-friendly, cars should be built smaller and lighter but everyone knows that is simply suicide sales-wise. How many people when making a purchase really think about the environment?? Look at what is happening with the online retail and logistics space. However, we can only move forward, maybe try to be more “eco-conscious”?? Maybe try “buy to last, buy better quality”?? Maybe try to demand minimal packaging rather than asking for more “unpacking experience”, which will require more packaging materials, more damaging to the environment??

🏎️ In the realm of Formula 1, every component of a car is meticulously designed for maximum performance, akin to the intricate satellites orbiting our planet. 🛰️ Just as these racing machines are engineered for speed, satellites are crafted for precision and efficiency. This video showcases the simplicity and sophistication beneath the complexity of a Mercedes-Benz AG Formula 1 car. It's a testament to human ingenuity, echoing our efforts in space exploration and orbital performance. I truly marvel at these feats of engineering, recognizing the parallels in our quest to conquer both the racetrack and the space domain. Who knows? With the advent of projects like Airspeeder (the world's first electric flying car racing series), we might soon be debating space-speed limits! 🏁 What do you think of this?
