Congratulations to our Employee of the Month for May, Luis Jimenez! We’re happy to recognize Luis as our employee of the month due to his great leadership and support during our recent move. His actions were a key to the success of the factory move by assisting the work cell team leaders on their workflow and problem solving as challenges arose.  His experience and knowledge have made him very valuable to the team. Luis quickly adapts to where he is needed most, and he can conquer just about any logistical task needed. Luis has been working in various positions in the company for the last 13 years. Starting in production and operations, Luis quickly moved into a leadership position as a supervisor. His most recent role is with our engineering team, where he helps improve production capacity and optimize our workflow. Luis says in his transition through the company, FAMCO has helped him tremendously in building up his skills, including supplemental aid and sending him to various classes to expand his education. Luis’s everyday responsibilities as an engineer are very dependent on the project. Often Luis gets to work and goes out onto the floor to do research relating to his task at hand. Luis says his favorite part about working at FAMCO is the friendly culture. He says that FAMCO is unique with their “human culture” that genuinely cares about the employees and encourages them to have a life outside of work. Luis really appreciates the work/life balance that FAMCO emphasizes, allowing him adequate time with his family. When at work, Luis says it’s easy to feel happy, surrounded by a great team of people. His coworker’s willingness to help reduces any stress he has about the job. He has confidence in relying on his teammates and the company in helping him move forward. Outside of work, Luis loves to go four-wheeling with his wife and two kids. They are constantly outside, camping, going to various amusement parks, or just detailing the cars in the driveway. Luis says that time like this with his family is what helps him stay motivated and focused on his job. Luis suggests to anyone starting a new role at FAMCO to take the job seriously. He says, “if you really like it, they will provide a lot of opportunity for growth, you just have to stay with it”. We are happy to honor employees like Luis who stay dedicated to their job and accept the challenges of growth. Move forward

Ever thought of starting your own trucking/ logistics company... About 2 months ago I attended a career expo at the Freeway Tarbanacle in Soweto where one of the guest speakers was to touch on logistics and transportation. Honestly, the only reason I attended was because of the the fact that I’d heard that they’d be a guest speaker touching on my topic of interest, logistics! The speaker happend to be a young female owner of a logistics company called DSPLOGIC, INC. Although she called it “small”, but the fact that she had a fleet of her own gave me a little more excitement about the path I chose. The logistics field is known to be a male dominated space, with advancements and a rise to the number of females and an interest in logistics, I’m happy to be amongst the crowd. What I found valuable about a few things mentioned from the expo, especially related to venturing into starting a business of your own in logistics. 🚛Competition: there is a handful of competitors within the field who also want to land contracts, courier and distribution gigs, you need to be able to withstand competition. 🚛Operation costs: from how much you pay for fuel/ diesel to the insurance premiums for your type of transportation and even just buying your own truck to start out, these may require a hefty load of capital, unless you able to get a business or sponsor. 🚛Different trucks for different businesses: interlink and superlink trucks, side tipper trucks, flat bed trucks and tanker trucks just, the list goes on, different types of trucks can be specific to the type of business you want to venture into, be it you want to do light duty courier services or more construction related businesses. Expos, seminars and other logistics related events remind me that Im a lifetime student as I learn something different everyday.
