Hong Kong, once known to be the Pearl of the Orient, stands as a remarkable testament to the convergence of diverse worlds. This unique metropolis thrives on the blend of West and East, Old and New, Analogue and Digital. Walking through its bustling streets, one cannot help but notice the harmonious coexistence of contrasts, each contributing to the city’s vibrant tapestry. One of the most profound experiences of this cultural amalgamation can be felt while riding the iconic trams that traverse the city. These trams, with their lack of air-conditioning, evoke a sense of ironic nostalgia. They harken back to a time when life was simpler, yet they navigate through a thoroughly modern landscape. This juxtaposition perfectly encapsulates the essence of Hong Kong - a city where the past and present coexist, creating a dynamic and ever-evolving cultural mosaic. As I sit on the tram, the breeze gently brushing against my face, I am overwhelmed by a sense of love for this contradiction. The tram, an analogue relic in a digital age, symbolises the enduring spirit of Hong Kong. It reminds me that while the city rapidly advances, it never forgets its roots. The blend of traditional and contemporary elements is what makes Hong Kong so unique and endearing. #HongKong #Tram

CITY: Hong Kong 🇭🇰 AESTHETIC: ⭐️ Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery ⭐️ Sky 100 Observation Deck ⭐️ Tsz Shan Monastery ⭐️ Hong Kong Disneyland ⭐️ Victoria Harbour NOT FORGETTING: Tian Tan Buddha (The Big Buddha) ✈️ One of my hobbies/passions is travel. I have been privileged to visit a few major cities Hong Kong is one on its own. I visited 10 years or so ago and I think it is changing its vibe back from UK ownership to Chinese. Once been never forgotten… One day I'll tell you about the story of a girlfriend and me getting on a small fishing boat to visit a well known Island, but they dropped us off on the wrong one with no boat back to the mainland until the next day! ✅ It has always struck me that each city has its own definitive brand. If I mentioned the aesthetics of Hong Kong to you, you’d instantly know it was Hong Kong, right? 🧠 If a city can have their own brand, why can’t you? 🙌 It’s imperative that YOU find your brand and let your clients know who you are. ✨ Once you have a personal brand, you can move forward with branding your business, and anything else that requires your unique stamp. 🔔 Why not take my quiz and discover how your Personal Brand is working for you: https://lnkd.in/e7F2SGAu 📲 To find past cities, please search under the hashtag: #cityofyouseries #cityofyou #personalbranding #professionaldevelopment #careervision #leadership #communication #growthmindset #success #SallyInkster #personalbrand 📍 Have you ever been to Hong Kong?

In one of my most recent letters published in the South China Morning Post SCMP on 5 August, I discussed the dwindling crowds at Hong Kong's Temple Street night market despite the government's "Night Vibes" campaign. I contended that the campaign failed to address concerns such as safety and noise within the congested Yau Tsim Mong district. I suggested organising night markets in more expansive locations, such as Kowloon Park, to better safeguard residents' quality of life. Additionally, I recommended moving Temple Street to Park Lane Shopper's Boulevard to invigorate local commerce. Ultimately, I concluded that the "Night Vibes" campaign had faltered, and the government requires grander, more prominent events to revitalise Hong Kong's nocturnal economy sustainably, rather than merely prolonging the operation of the Temple Street market. I complete my 12 years in Hong Kong today. 12 years ago, on this day, I arrived in Hong Kong for the first time. I was rather confused about the city and my future here. Hong Kong didn't come across as a friendly city at first glance; I felt intimidated. Every night after coming back home, I only had one wish: I want to go back home. 12 years later, Hong Kong is also my home. It's actually a daunting task to stay updated on every single thing happening in Bangladesh, my home country, and Hong Kong, my adopted city. But I can't stress enough how it helps in broadening our perspectives. A lot has happened in Hong Kong in the last 12 years; many things—political landscape, real estate price, economic situation, consumer confidence, tourism—have changed. Other than the hardcore numbers, it's also subjective whether the changes have been good or bad. Personally, I continue to believe in Hong Kong, and despite several challenges, I continue to keep my hopes high. Professionally, I work in a sector that closely observes Hong Kong's status and prospects, and it helps to expand my knowledge base. Hope to continue learning more and living more! #hongkong #expat #migration #learning

The term "nation branding" has been described as the favourable images of countries resulting from "strategy, substance, and symbolic actions." For Rick Buck Song Koh, guest lecturer at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP), and author of Brand Singapore, it's all about reputation. As he puts it, “Your reputation is your most valuable asset, because with it you can get so much done. And if you've got a bad reputation, then you've got a mountain to climb". In this Global-is-Asian article, he discusses the strategies that have made Singapore a model for nation branding, focusing on economic development, tourism, and international relations. The ultimate not-a-comparison post 🇭🇰🇸🇬 Ah, the age-old debate: Hong Kong vs. Singapore. It’s like comparing apples to… well, more apples—but with different stickers. Every time you mention one city, someone inevitably chimes in, “But what about the other?” It’s as if they think these two vibrant metropolises are in a perpetual competition for the title of “Best Place to Not Sleep.” At this point, I’ve lived the same number of years in Hong Kong as I have in Singapore. But let’s be clear: this post is NOT about comparing their food, culture, or how many skyscrapers each can fit into a single square kilometer. Nope! So, here’s to Hong Kong’s opulent Victoria Harbour views and Singapore’s stunning Marina Bay Sands. Let’s embrace the fact that both cities can thrive side by side, like two best friends who can’t agree on a movie genre but still have the best time together. If you find yourself caught in the endless loop of “which is better,” just remember: it’s not a competition—unless we’re talking about who can eat more hawker food in one sitting. And in that case, game on! 😎 #Singapore #HongKong
