Convening Connections, Aotearoa New Zealand Wednesday, April 3, 2024 - 9:30 am-11:00 am Please join us next week in a Practice Foundations // Pushing the Boundaries for Public Sector Innovation mash up - The session will be co-hosted by The Lab, Healthy Families Far North, and Lily Raphael of Vancouver Solutions Lab as part of the international series "Pushing the Boundaries of Public Sector Innovation”. We will be connecting with folks from Australia, North America, and beyond to explore the personal and structural aspects of systems change, grounded in an example from early years systems transformation efforts in Aotearoa. Speakers Aimee Hadrup (The Southern Initiative), Tanya Radford (Te Whatu Ora) and Angie Tangere - Ngāti Porou (The Lab) will share their experiences with the Early Years Implementation Learning Platform. The Platform brings together teams from across the public sector in Aotearoa to support a collective focus on the early years. It works to connect “on the ground” learning in community with systems transformation efforts, drawing on indigenous ways of knowing and being in the curation of the relationships, spaces and rhythms needed to do this work. This is session 3 of 3: Governments are facing increasing pressures to address complex challenges like climate change, growing inequity, reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, and many others at the scale and rate that these challenges demand. We know we need to operate differently in order for different outcomes to be possible. The public sector needs to update the paradigms, processes, systems, structures, and tools of their trade to better respond to the complexity of the challenges we face. This is transformational work. The three sessions in this cycle will explore the inner and outer work of systems transformation in the public sector. Please check out this link to register or for access to earlier sessions! https://lnkd.in/g9seeaeQ Aimee Hadrup Penny Hagen

In the quest for a #WellbeingEconomy, understanding the mechanics of change is vital. These latest insights from member of The Club of Rome Katherine Trebeck for Earth4All discuss the multilayered approach to systemic transformation, from the macro influences of societal norms to the micro initiatives sparking innovation. Through the lens of pioneers breaking new ground and the strategic openings of policy windows, this publication uncovers the dynamic interplay between public opinion, political viability, and the pioneering efforts needed to forge new economic paths. Trebeck shares insights on how non-violent social movements, broad public engagement, and the strategic alignment of policy, politics, and problems can converge to create a tipping point for change. She also argues on why broadening the Overton Window of public acceptability and engaging in large-scale, diverse, and visible actions are crucial in driving the systemic shift towards prioritising wellbeing over traditional economic measures. Explore the multifaceted strategies and roles—from entrepreneurs to inside-outsiders—that are essential in navigating the journey towards a sustainable, equitable future. 🚨 In this new RSPP paper, Wolfgang Haider, Astrid Krisch and I give a comprehensive overview of 100+ #socially #innovative #experiments in #Austria and how they contribute to #transformative #development. 🌱 We illustrate 👉 the #challenges they tackle, 👉 the social #change they aim for, 👉 the #obstacles they come across, 👉 the tangible #outcomes they achieve, and 👉 how all this differs in urban and rural #contexts. 🗺 Our findings: ✨ Sparking change is more likely for interventions that take a place- and needs-based approach, are well networked and embedded in existing institutional frameworks. 🏔 Interventions in rural contexts face more adversity while being more substantial for local infrastructure transformations than their urban counterparts. 🚧 Many interventions turned from ephemeral experiment into constant contribution to provisioning systems, permanently filling a significant local gap. 👉 We conclude by arguing for a shift of emphasis from a general call for transformative change to its local implementation in path-dependent socio-spatial and socio-political settings. 🎯 Rather than rolling out ubiquitous solutions, it is key to enable new #practices and #participatory decision processes that link these solutions with the #social #challenges of transformation in specific places to enable tailored local embedding. 👉 We also emphasize the #political nature of such interventions. They can change resource #allocation and #access, #power relations and #problematizations associated with local transformations. ✊ By exploring alternative transformation pathways, enabling socio-economic and institutional redesign, they also hold political relevance for local development in a more-than-growth perspective. https://lnkd.in/damdRugC
