53 years ago this month, one of the most influential environmental books of all time was published: "The Limits to Growth". The report warned that if growth trends continued we would overshoot Earth's capacity. It said that if humanity decided to act, the challenge of overshoot was solvable - but the sooner we started, the better. Fifty years later, a collective of scientists, economic thinkers and advocates came together to assess the book's projections. If humanity had not yet heeded its warnings, how could we accelerate the systems change needed to achieve wellbeing for all on a finite planet? The outcome was "Earth for All": a book that builds on the legacy of "The Limits to Growth" and sets out a viable path for wellbeing and prosperity in the coming decades - and the consequences if once again we fail to act. About us
Earth4All is a global collective of scientists, economists, communicators, advocates, with the will to act. The dominant economic thinking and its underlying model are destabilising societies. And the planet. It is time for a change. Earth4All has identified five extraordinary turnarounds needed to create wellbeing for all on a (relatively) stable planet. This analysis combines the best available science with new economic thinking. Five turnarounds to rethink capitalism, move beyond GDP, and bring our societies on a safe pathway to wellbeing for all. We are ready to break with the past, old ideas, and imagine another world. Get involved via https://www.earth4all.life/ !

It's Global Recycling Day - but recycling alone can't address our ever-growing demand for natural resources. ♻️ Anders Wijkman and Janez Potocnik of the International Resource Panel (IRP) and Earth4All Transformational Economics Commission argue that it is time to go beyond the paradigm of "reduce, reuse, recycle": we need a wider, systemic shift that addresses our appetite for resources head-on. We must consume less, and meet our needs in more intelligent and efficient ways than through today’s consumption culture. Look back at their op-ed that asks: how much is really enough?⏩https://lnkd.in/dt-dtZub

Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim has been advocating for Indigenous rights and environmental protection since she was a teenager. When we asked her about how we can upgrade our economic system to protect people and the planet, she pointed to the importance of whole-system approaches long championed by Indigenous communities: 💬 “We do not divide climate, biodiversity, land, water, and health – we always tackle it holistically.” She calls for an economic system that works for both people and nature, with greater investment in Indigenous people as active stewards of our planet. Watch the interview to hear her powerful message. #Earth4All #IndigenousWisdom #PlanetaryStewards

💬 "Instead of fixating on conventional economic expansion, Europe could focus on curbing overconsumption and meeting people’s needs more efficiently—placing wellbeing above the pursuit of maximum GDP growth." In a new article for Social Europe, Earth4All Transformational Economics Commission member and Honorary President of The Club of Rome Anders Wijkman argues that in the light of the Draghi report's warnings of stagnation, Europe must must resist the pressure to follow America’s lead and forge its own path rooted in social equity, environmental sustainability, and long-term wellbeing. 💬 "Stable, successful, confident and positive societies are not produced by the pursuit of growth for its own sake, but by clarity and purposiveness about what growth is supposed to serve." Rowan Williams highlights his work with Earth4All Transformational Economics Commission member Tim Jackson and CUSP | Centre for the Understanding of Sustainable Prosperity exploring what citizens really want from "growth": opportunity, public services, housing, a stable environment. Earth4All polling also backs the demand for growing public good, not growth for growth's sake: over two thirds of people agree that the economy should focus on the health and wellbeing of people and nature, not just profit. "When we hear politicians appealing to the imperative of growth, we should be asking insistently what the word means, what we are supposed to be growing into or towards."
