I can relate to this. We need equity in funding. Despite being some of the most effective climate justice leaders, indigenous peoples and indigenous-led organisations are some of the most underfunded. This is a justice equity issue which must be corrected. So many of us are undertaking the most important and cutting edge work on a shoe string budget. We need the philanthropists to step up and decolonize and fund us.
"Indigenous perspectives are often overlooked and intentionally excluded, despite the fact that Indigenous environmental defenders assume some of the greatest risks in undertaking this work: of the environmental defenders killed in 2022, over 1/3 (36%) were Indigenous." ~Thalia Cachimuel, Director of Movement and Strategic Partnerships, NDN Collective 📕 https://lnkd.in/g7GhjNzt

Social Media Impact Strategist for Environmental Protection, Justice, and Advocacy Campaigns #Español
History whispers through treaties, rivers murmur stories of broken promises, and ancestral lands bear the scars of injustice. But a powerful voice is rising ✊: Environmental Justice must recognize the unique legal and natural connection of Native Peoples to the land ️, as affirmed by treaties, agreements, and covenants (signed, but often broken ). This principle honors the inherent sovereignty and self-determination of Indigenous Nations 🪶, a right enshrined in these agreements. It's time to mend the past and ensure environmental justice for all! Read more about The Principle of Environmental Justice 11 here: https://buff.ly/3XrOd1I #EnvironmentalJustice #IndigenousRights
