Dresden-based #SEMRON Raises €7.3M Seed Funding. SEMRON creates potent, energy-efficient computer chips that improve AI functionality in small, smart #gadgets. The company’s novel method to chip design makes use of three-dimensional space, enabling previously #unheard-of efficiency gains. Current processors have issues with size, cost, and energy #consumption, which makes them less #appropriate for AI models in the future on smaller smart devices. Alternative strategies ignore the #requirement for cost reductions, memory density to prevent the size of AI models from exploding, or the inability to run several classes of AI algorithms in favor of #concentrating on a particular #technical aspect like energy efficiency. Lead the current funding round, Join Capital had participation from new investors SquareOne, OTB Ventures, Hermann Hauser (Onsight Ventures), and Pre-Seed investors Dr. Wolfram Drescher (BlueWonder), Andreas Werner and Sven Sieber (Gigahertz Ventures), and Hans Rohrer, the former president of TSMC who oversaw the company’s European operations, continued to support the round. With the additional funding, SEMRON will #accelerate the development of hardware and compilers, staff growth, and #internationalization. By year’s end, the #corporation wants to triple its staff. SEMRON goal is to develop artificial intelligence chips with the #smallest possible footprint without sacrificing #processing power. They require a very high compute density for this. 91 startups raise $2.6 billion, with big rounds for AI chips. By Jesse Allen. AI drew more investors to the chip industry in Q2. Four AI-focused chip startups receiving rounds of more than $100 million, targeting data center ASICs for transformers, highly flexible platforms for the embedded edge, dataflow processors, and mixed-signal neuromorphic chips. In-memory computing also helped boost AI, with three companies either incorporating it into their chips or providing specialized IP. Ways to connect chiplets, chips, and server racks was another area of activity, with Germany pumping more than $200 million into a graphene-based co-integrated optics system for massively parallel connectivity. Other optical interconnect approaches drew attention, as well, along with a way to make ultra-high density interconnects using liquid metal ink. https://lnkd.in/g2eY6g53 #semiconductor #AIhardware #startups #startupfunding #venturecapital TXOne Networks Black Semiconductor PsiQuantum Rivos Inc. Nearly two years ago, the semiconductor industry gained significant attention due to the transformative potential of generative AI and the powerful chips driving it. Nvidia has been the main beneficiary, but several startups are challenging its dominance or exploring other disruptive opportunities. Despite high risks and costs, semiconductor startups could benefit from an expected 20 percent industry growth this year, driven by strong AI chip demand. This creates opportunities for AI chip startups like Kneron, Cerebras Systems, and Hailo to capture some of this projected growth. Kneron CEO 劉峻誠Albert Liu mentioned that the latest low-power KL-830 NPU significantly improves Edge AI performance. #ai #generativeai #npu #lowpower

Co-Founder & Chief Revenue Officer at Lightium | Driving Photonic Revolution with Advanced PIC Solutions | Chief Pastry Officer
🚀 Lightium just closed a $7M seed funding round! 🎉 This milestone comes just one year after Lightium's incorporation. But today, it's not just about the funding. It's about celebrating every step, every learning, and every person who has been part of this adventure. 🌟 When we started Lightium, I wasn’t sure what this journey would bring. But one thing I knew for certain: it wouldn’t have started without my cofounder, Amir H. Ghadimi, who convinced me to jump into the cold waters of entrepreneurship. The journey took off in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Techstars Berlin gave us the stage to meet amazing investors and mentors who believed in our vision and pushed us to grow. And let's not forget Innosuisse—their initial support was the spark that set us on this path.💡 But the real MVPs here? My family. ❤️ They’ve seen the late nights, the endless meetings, and the moments of doubt. Building a startup is exhilarating and a test of endurance I have never imagined for everyone involved. I couldn't have made it through this year without their support and patience. This funding isn't just a win for Lightium; it's a validation of the risks we've taken, the team we're building, and the vision we're chasing. To everyone who's been part of this journey—thank you. This success is as much yours as it is ours. Now, it's time to double down, scale up, and continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible in integrated photonics! 💡 Here’s to the next chapter! 🚀 #SeedFunding #StartupJourney #Lightium #IntegratedPhotonics #NextChapter
