Advocacy is one of the 3 pillars that PHHWV forms its focus on together with education and rehabilitation. The Victorian Government began reforms in 2020 to draft the new Animal Care and Protection Bill. PHHWV took part in the process and made a submission. A major shift in this draft is – 6 Principle of sentience  1.     (1) It is the Parliament's intention that in the administration of this Act and the regulations regard should be given to the capacity of animals—  (a) to subjectively perceive their environments; and  (b) to experience positive and negative physical and mental states. It has been well over 30 years that reform on this topic has been undertaken. As equine stakeholders, we need to ensure that the 5 Domains of Animal Welfare is included in all considerations of making informed decisions based on international world best practice for all horses . ·      Environment ·      Health ·      Behavioural Interaction   ·      Nutrition ·      Mental State Before the new Animal Care Protection Bill can be presented to Parliament, it requires the content of the Bill to have stakeholder and community input. This can be done via this link https://lnkd.in/g77zgxPi I urge all to read the document and to do your own individual submission. PHHWV will be doing one as key stakeholder. Can’t urge enough to demand that the 5 Domains be included. As waiting another 30 years is way too late for our equines.

🏷 What does our new survey on farm animal welfare say on information and labelling? That consumers want to know more, and want reliable information. 🥚 Just like it exists for eggs, 3 in 4 consumers would like information about how the animals were raised on products like meat and dairy, as they feel they do not know enough. ⚠ On the other hand, few of them trust companies’ claims on how well they care for animals. Please sign and share!!! Nix the Prop 12 "Fix"! A monumental threat is facing animals in our country, and we need your help to stop it! Ever since the Supreme Court of the United States upheld the strongest farm animal protection law in the country—California's Proposition 12—lobbyists representing only a segment of the pork industry have pushed for a so-called “fix”—a “fix” that is not at all necessary. And now it’s clear that their allies in Congress are going to try and use the Farm Bill to implement their so-called "fix." The proposed partisan Farm Bill in the U.S. House of Representatives contains language that aims to invalidate Prop 12 and could also wipe out hundreds of other state laws not only relating to animal welfare and animal products, but also how states regulate the sales of products within their own borders, set standards for disease and quarantine control, toxic materials and more. https://lnkd.in/eC8PXP6S
