This just goes to show that the carriers are not adopting proper education in the importance of pre trip inspections. Many carriers across all industries.Look at driver trainers as an unnecessary expense. Regrettably many look at training as an expense best left to post incident issues. Until enforcement agenplease start impacting this incorrect order of training and improvement. We will not see a reduction in preventable accidents of any degree.

Notice anything about the released July violations from Wyoming Highway Patrol? Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration says 10% of all roadside inspection violations involve issues that could have been identified during a proper pre-trip inspection. This includes issues like brake systems (15% of all out-of-service violations), tires (15% of all violations), and lights (12% of all violations).

Offsetting Penalties? High speed chases! Everyone's favorite flavor of policing is here on display for all to judge, jury, and, uh...well... While I am no expert in the field of policing after only 22 years in the industry I can tell you, you young freshed faced rookies, that placing a person into the back of a marked patrol vehicle does constitute a detention. At that time, the individual is restricted of their Constitutional freedoms while a preliminary investigation takes place to determine the next phase of inquiry. That basically means the person is not free to leave. It also means that they are not allowed to leave in your patrol vehicle. It also means that when your procured patrol vehicle is "pitted" by your peer...well...maybe you'd better just walk a beat. #police #policeofficer #policetraining #policeofficers #policedepartment #policejobs #policechief #policecommemorationday #lawenforcement #emergencymanagement #emergencypreparedness #emergencyresponse #emergencyservices #emergency #emergencyplanning #emt #emts #firesafety #firefighter #firesafety #firefighters #firefightertraining #publicsafety #nypd #ppd #pfd #nyfd #phillypolice #philadelphiapolice #philadelphiapolicedepartment #lapd #activeshooter #vehiclepursuit #democrat #republican #biden #trump https://lnkd.in/ekWM7Yiq

Traffic stops are one of the most common and dangerous things we do every day as law enforcement. The danger I speak of here is not getting killed, but being sued and making the job more difficult for everyone in our industry. We train KHP troopers on the common pitfalls and all intricate case law pertaining to traffic stops! Check out our Traffic Stop class and see if we could help protect your agency and your officers! #bluetogold #trafficstops #policeliability #policetraining #caselaw #lawenforcementtraining

Law enforcement officers on road patrol and answering calls have a challenging enough job these days, and it is critical that they stay calm, continually assess a situation, and maintain self-discipline to avoid inadvertently escalating a situation. It is something I will be emphasizing again on June 14th during my one-day class on practical de-escalation for patrol at the annual Ohio Tactical Officers Association (OTOA) training conference in Sandusky, OH. The May, 2023 incident with fired Palm Beach Gardens officer Bethany Guerriero is a disappointing, head-shaking example of what NOT to do as a road patrol officer! There are many videos on the incident on YT, with many teaching points, but I have taken about a 30-second clip from her own bodycam footage to pull out 2 teaching points from it: 1) Have the situational awareness and self-discipline to recognize you need to disengage and break contact with a person. Let your colleagues do the talking while you get away to take a moment to compose yourself or focus on doing something else. In this case, she could have gone to talk to the other people involved. Don't get sucked down a rabbit hole where you get into a never-ending, round-and-round debate, argument, explanation with a person! Avoid getting into a verbal loop! More often than not it only exponentially increases the likelihood that you will become frustrated, impatient, and even offended by the person, and THAT exponentially increases the likelihood that you will do or say something that will escalate the situation! 2) Look out for each other! When you see your colleague getting fired up and jacked up, and taking things too personally, pull them away! Get them away from the source of stress and agitation! Take over the conversation for them, do not just stand there and let your colleague continue to do and say things that will absolutely affect you in the blast radius if things really blow up! You will certainly be asked why you let a situation get out of control and face disciplinary action! Trust your colleagues if they try to pull you away from someone! Don't tell them, "I got this", when they see that you don't and are trying to help you avoid escalating a situation! #policeofficer #lawenforcement #sheriffdeputy #lawenforcementtraining #policetraining #deescalation #deescalationtraining https://lnkd.in/e9YWnwmx

Why can't situations just be talked out? Here, the California Highway Patrol cuffs and arrests a firefighter for "blocking the road". Fire personnel were aiding victims of a rollover crash on the side of the freeway when this incident took place. The County Fire Authority Captain said in response, "The protocol for the fire department is to protect the scene. When we arrive on these traffic accidents cars are going at a high rate of speed especially at night. We will block lanes to protect our firefighters and our paramedics." So, what happened here? Over-zealous police? Misinterpretation of protocol? What are your thoughts? How should situations like this be handled?

New York Governor Hochul’s decision to bar National Guardsmen from carrying “long guns” in the subway is just another example of how emotions triumph over intellect in the “blue” states. New York residents have been quoted as saying that “long guns” scare them — even though those guns are there to protect them. So what’s the difference between a “long gun” and a “short gun”? First of all let’s get our terminology correct: a “long gun” is typically a rifle (it could also be a sub machine gun, a carbine or a shotgun). A “short gun” is a pistol. Other than the length of the barrel, which is limited by law to 16” for a pistol, many rifles and pistols are identical except for the butt stock. A popular example is the famous AR-15. The AR-15 rifle and AR pistol look very much alike and fire the same ammunition. There are a few other technical differences, but for all practical purposes, like law enforcement, a rifle is just a pistol with a longer barrel. So why the fuss? Because of the effect that seeing a gun has on people who are psychologically fragile. Instead of a feeling of confidence that they are being protected by “a good guy with a gun,” some New Yorkers are more worried about law enforcement guns than they are worried about criminals. But this may all be academic anyway. I read today that NYC subway crime has actually increased since the National Guard was deployed.

Public transportation accidents include crashes involving airplanes, buses, trains, the subway, cable cars, and taxis. Because they so often involve injuries to multiple passengers, these mass transit accidents can be devastating. If you are hurt in a public transportation accident, you should take photographs from different angles of the scene, showing any property damage and any personal injuries. You should also get the contact information of witnesses and obtain a copy of the police report.
