Do you rely occasionally or often on punishments or threats of punishments to motivate or get your kids to do what you say? I’ve been there. I want to assure you that there are much better ways to create connection and cooperation with your kids than to threaten them into compliance. The threat of punishment only works temporarily anyway, and your child learns absolutely nothing from it, other than to fear you and to fear mistakes. The best time for a couple to de-escalate or pause an argument is as soon as it becomes unproductive. Even a fifteen minute break can help calm and reset. This week, we’re in session with Grace and Finn, a young married couple who struggle to keep their disagreements from turning into full-blown arguments they later regret. We help them identify what goes wrong and give them practical tools for substituting faulty assumptions and accusations with openness and vulnerability. HATE, HATE, HATE, DOUBLE HATE, LOATHE ENTIRELY.... On the most recent episode of the ACS Group podcast 'A Yorkshire Office', I asked a question to the hosts, and the listeners, what things in the office really get under their skin. Things that just don't need to happen. Things that need to STOP. The usual suspects came up like cooking fish in the microwave, colleagues not cleaning up after themselves, leaving things on your personal desk... The one that I passionately described was the REPLY ALL button. JUST WHY? I get that it has its uses, especially when it's an important trail, but for individuals to continue having a conversation with another colleague and getting everyone involved. JUST NO. People who reply all just to say thank you or something, when they sit RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. *insert GIF of Michael Scott saying "No, God No" here* Did you know the average carbon footprint of an email is 0.3g CO2e? You're literally killing the planet with unnecessary e-mails. So... reader... I ask you. What grinds your gears? We'll discuss the best ones on the next episode. Let's see if you're guilty of any of them.

As we've navigated family crisis for the first two months of 2024, this podcast episode hit me deeply. It's a whole conversation about "how the act of asking for help goes beyond vulnerability—it's a gateway to deeper connection with others." And "why our worthiness isn't tied to independence—but rather to our ability to build a web of support." Such an important and thoughtful conversation on how much reaching out for help - and saying yes to those who offer it - is a gift to everyone involved. https://lnkd.in/dpwnhip4 #AskingForHelp #CommunitySupport #PodcastEpisode #Vulnerability
