Where do you stand on sidelifter safety? If you’re not sure, the answer is in the NZ International Transport Safety Group’s Good Practice Guidelines. For owner-operators of sidelifter cranes it’s an important question with a clear answer that’s part of the industry’s recognised safety guidelines. When you arrive on-site, you need to make sure you are: 1. On stable ground 2. Nowhere near overhead obstructions 3. Have enough room to create a safe exclusion zone, and 4. In a position to safely reverse if required Then, when you operate the crane, you need to make sure you’re standing either in front or behind your truck and trailer in what we call the 2m Operator Zone. For more information and advice, or to book a Certificate of Inspection for your sidelifter, call our Auckland team on 09 277 8499 or our Christchurch team on 03 348 8499. #Steelbro, #SidelifterSolutions, #FreightLogistics

Test your knowledge time... Part 4. This week we are focusing on fork lift trucks. Questions: 1 What regulations do these fall under? 2 How often do they need to be inspected? Answers: 1 PUWER & LOLER 2 Every 12 months (or 6 months if person carrying attachments are used) Also: PUWER stands for the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. LOLER stands for Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998. The inspection intervals noted are guidance on the maximum period between thorough examinations only and may be altered to more frequent intervals by the competent person based on factors such as environment, condition and working practices. #ForkliftSafety #WorkplaceSafety #PUWER #LOLER #EquipmentInspection #SafetyRegulations #IndustrialSafety
