Purposeful presence has taught us that employees are behaving in a more considered way, choosing their workplace based on their functional work activities. Our data has shown that when an activity is brilliantly supported, it can directly influence the number of employees who attach importance to that activity. It’s time for organisations to use this to their advantage in their future workplace strategy that seeks to magnetise rather than mandate employees back to the office.

This is a really simple structure for universities to follow in briefing for their workplace design. Be clear on the answers to a few simple questions: What is a university for? What are the activities that are best supported together on site (and indeed which are often best performed elsewhere)? And what attracts scholars to come to campus?
