On the Internationdal Day of Women and Girls in Science, may we highlight the importance of Women empowering other Women, especially in Science. #WomenScientists #EmpoweredWomenEmpowerWomen
Biomedical Scientist | Research | Clinical Trials | Vaccines | Public Health | Communication in Science | Portugal & UK
This week we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science! This day aims to encourage more girls and women to pursue careers in science. 🌐 Diversity is essential in any field to avoid narrow perspectives. Including more women in traditionally male-dominated areas brings fresh insights, talent, and creativity, while also enhancing women's social and financial standing globally. 👧🏻 To empower girls to pursue careers in science, we can bring women scientists into schools to inspire the next generation (look at initiatives like Native Scientists) and open up laboratories for school visits. Another strategy is to highlight successful women scientists in the media, serving as powerful role models for young girls (find posts on social media with the #womeninstem or #womeninscience). 👩🏾🔬 Equally important is the need to empower women in science to reach leadership roles, an area where they are particularly under-represented, for example, by implementing mentorship programs and leadership courses specifically for women (like the HERSCHEL PROGRAMME). Let's celebrate and support women and girls in science every day!

Recognising International Day of Women and Girls in Science! Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) have been at the heart of TMOS from the day the Centre was formed. So much so, the Centre Executive committed to a pivotal goal of achieving 40% female representation by 2026. Organisations within STEM are notoriously underrepresented by women and gender-diverse people, with the baseline within science being a modest 17%. TMOS is proud to have finished 2023 with 41.17% female representation (36.84% when excluding professional staff). Real change only happens from the top down, and unless leadership is on board with your goals, change will never happen. That is why we also deliver regular leadership training within the DE&I space; for example, in 2023, we focused on Inclusive Leadership, which extended to the next generation of leaders across our 5 node organisations - The Australian National University, University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, RMIT University, and The University of Western Australia Dedication to gender equity is clearly demonstrated by our leadership through the active endorsement of all the initiatives found in our Decadal Plan Response. READ: https://buff.ly/49ljnea The Decadal Plan, formulated by the The Australian Academy of Science & Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE), aims to improve female representation in STEM fields from education to professional careers over a decade-long period. Lead Data Scientist at Boston Consulting Group (BCG X) | Financial Institutions | Marketing, Sales, and Pricing
The 2022 STEM Equity Monitor shows that women represent only 27% of roles in Australian STEM-qualified occupations, with just 8% of CEO/Head of business roles being held by women. More worryingly, this trend starts early. In 2021, girls aged 12-17 years were less likely to aspire to STEM related careers than boys. Additionally, only 2% of girls and 5% of boys aspire to entrepreneurship. Was fantastic to spend last Thursday morning as a mentor at the Future of Female Leadership Program hosted by The Orbispace Initiative, who are making a difference for young girls in year 8 across NSW to inform them more about careers in STEM and Entrepreneurship, and paving the way to make change to these worrying statistics!! Find out more about their incredible work below: https://lnkd.in/gVwcqKGt #womeninstem

In many societies, fewer women pursue education and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). These fields are often pathways to high-level executive roles, making the gender gap in STEM a significant barrier to female leadership.Encouraging STEM education for girls and young women is crucial for creating future female leaders. Let's support initiatives that inspire and empower women to pursue STEM careers! #WomenInSTEM #annaundcie #femaleleadership #annastepup
