In honor of last weekend's Minnesota Walley Fishing Opener consider this: Getting that top performing marketer or product manager is a lot like fishing. First, you have to go to the right spot. Are you looking for top candidates in the right places? Hint: Top talent isn't on job boards. Second, you have to have the right bait. Is the role and the job description written in a way that top talent will be interested? Third, you need to set the hook when they strike. Are you promptly following up with top talent or do you have a protracted interview process? Fourth, you need to keep them hooked, not break the line and hopefully, net them. Are you staying engaged with the candidate after they have accepted your offer? Yesterday, we learned that a company I founded in 2005 and sold, prior to Sage, will be ceasing operations this Friday. This news has left us deeply saddened, especially those of us here at #Sage where many of our team members started their careers. Our hearts go out to the over 100 former team members affected by this closure. In response, we are hosting a #HiringFair at our office to assist as many of our former colleagues as possible. Given the challenging market conditions, we are limited in how many we can hire, so we are reaching out to other #logistics companies in #Nashville and the surrounding areas to join us in this effort. Curious question: I recently volunteered to help my friend give mock interviews to high school students in their Life Resource Management class. These would be for entry level retail/fast-food, summer jobs for high school students. They created resumes and prepared for these interviews. They had various community members come in to do interviews. One of the questions was, "where do you see yourself in 5 years?" And my question to you is, are we really asking 14-18 year olds existential questions like this to work at a pizza shop or as a summer camp counselor? And if so, what kind of answers are you looking for?
