The seemingly straightforward scheme encountered a range of challenges, including potential ground subsidence associated with historical coal mining, generally poor ground conditions and contamination including “Blue Billy” and hydrocarbons. COBRE LIMITED (ASX:CBE) has kicked off a 3D hydrogeological test study to prove the viability of developing an in-situ copper mine at its #NgamiCopperProject (NCP) in Botswana’s #KalahariCopperBelt (KCB). To do that, the company has begun drilling two pumping and injection wells to gain insights into aquifer permeability, anisotropy, extent and groundwater flow directions in areas with high- and moderate-grade zones of mineralisation in the southern anticlinal structure of the NCP. Cobre is aiming to prove up a similar in-situ copper recovery (ISCR) process to Taseko Mines' Florence Copper Deposit in Arizona, which boasts 320 million tonnes at 0.36% copper and shares a similar scale to NCP. A 51-hole for 3,3300m RC drilling program is to commence at our Kempfield Project in September 2024 and is expected to take 6 weeks to complete. The program will focus on 13 high priority regional targets outside the current resource over the Kempfield Deposit, to test the shallow gold-silver-base metal barite hosted mineralisation along the highly prospective regional trends. The Kempfield Silver Deposit Mineral Resource estimate for all categories was recently upgraded to 63.7Mt @ 69.75 g/t silver equivalent for 142.8 million ounces Ag Eq, containing of 65.8Moz silver, 125,192 oz gold, 207,402t lead & 420,373t zinc. Managing Director Mr Pedro Kastellorizos commented: “Argent is pleased to announce that we have received NSW Regulator & Crown Lands approval for an RC drilling campaign over Argent’s flagship project, Kempfield Deposit in NSW. Recent work in the project area has delineated significant walkup drill targets yet to be systematically drill tested. Based on structural, geological and the more recently completed geochemical programs, Argent has identified 13 untested zones which have excellent potential to host gold, silver and base metal mineralisation. We have advanced the Company’s strategy by identifying priority target areas which have the potential for delineating undiscovered mineralisation. The Kempfield Project remains on track for further resource expansion based on numerous drillholes which finished in mineralisation along with broad high-grade down plunging silver mineralisation previously outlined." On describing the difference between the two percussive hammer drilling was likened to c1800s amputation by hacksaw vs modern day keyhole microsurgery with Geoinvestigate's Microdrill.
