The latest graduate outcomes survey reported the largest increase in employment rates *in the field of humanities* (up from 81.7% in 2021 to 86.6% in 2022). Median graduate salaries also jumped, sitting at $66,700 compared with sciences and mathematics at $66,000 and business and management $65,000.

But when you are busy with a million emails, multi-disciplinary projects and back to back meetings, it’s easy to let CPD opportunities pass you by. That’s why I’m delighted I’ll be taking part in training today attending the RIBA CPD Forum. It’s great to have a chance to invest in my own development. I’ll be learning new ways to use the platform to provide the best, most relevant, CPD I can to our partners. So it’s a day for my own personal development but means I’ll be thinking about passing on that learning to others too. 🎓 Celebrating a Milestone: Graduating Cum Laude! 🎓 Dear LinkedIn community, I am thrilled to share a momentous achievement in my journey — a milestone that fills me with immense pride and gratitude. 🌟 Recently, I graduated cum laude from the Faculty of Architecture at Delft University of Technology. My thesis, titled “Knowledge about Transitions in Architectural Practices,” delved into critical aspects of our field, and I had the privilege of conducting my research at KAAN Architecten in Rotterdam. 🏛️ On a memorable Thursday, July 4th, 2024, I successfully defended my thesis. This day will forever hold a special place in my heart — a culmination of hard work, resilience, and passion. 🗓️ My thesis accelerates the understanding of transitions faced by modern Dutch architects, including market demands, policy regulations for circularity, and procedural components. It also addresses emergent changes in professional roles, encompassing new forms of collaboration, skills, knowledge, and technological advancements. The research investigates how knowledge-sharing assists architects in managing ongoing and future transitions by developing a set of coping tactics for knowledge-sharing. 📚 I owe this achievement to an incredible support network. First and foremost, my heartfelt thanks go to my supervisors, Paul Chan and Kees Kaan, whose guidance and encouragement fueled my academic journey. My sincere gratitude for your invaluable insights, shaping my perspective and pushing me to excel. I am also sincerely grateful to the KAANers for their personal stories and openness during the interviews, as well as for being my daily inspiration. 💖 Ten years ago, I envisioned this moment — a second Master’s degree. Honoring Collective Wisdom and Action in Education In the spirit of Paulo Freire, education is about far more than the transfer of knowledge (banking education)—it’s about fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving (problem-posing education). I’m thrilled to celebrate (from my alma mater, the University of Oregon) a cross-disciplinary team from the School of Architecture & Environment and the School of Planning, Public Policy and Management, which brought this philosophy to life by winning first place in the EPA’s Campus RainWorks Challenge. Their project, “Rainy Days, Nature’s Way,” presented a co-designed sustainability proposal for integrating stormwater management and nature play at the Village School, a local, Waldorf-based K-8 school in Eugene, Oregon. It showcased these students’ talents in landscape design, urban planning, landscape performance analysis, and #storytelling and sparked exciting peer learning and meaningful community engagement with various stakeholders. This achievement reminds us of the crucial role that sensemaking, mindscapes, and mindshare play in driving meaningful change. Sensemaking: The ability to interpret and understand complex information to make informed, strategic decisions in uncertain times. Mindscapes: The creative mental frameworks that foster innovative solutions and fresh approaches to problems. Mindshare: A team’s collective focus and shared understanding are critical for aligning efforts and achieving collaborative success. These students didn’t just design a project—they created an opportunity for community engagement, peer learning, and sustainable impact. Their ability to lean into each other’s strengths, collaborate, and trust one another exemplifies what real-world, hands-on experience can look like. Kudos to everyone at the School of Architecture & Environment and the School of Planning, Public Policy and Management!
