The article talks about “a comprehensive, solutions driven and data backed exploration” to overcoming NIMBY objections to new developments. It’s been my experience that NIMBY objections are emotion based and well thought solutions and particularly data generate a strong negative reaction. The NIMBY solution is changing hearts and minds. Data, especially, doesn’t change hearts and minds. Hearts and minds are changed by individuals who listen sincerely, appreciate differences and cooperate on a mutually rewarding solution.
ULI Utah's 3rd Annual Housing Summit is announcing a new session! THE YIMBY PLAYBOOK with Nick Duerksen, Chris Hupp, ENV SP, STP, and Paul Allred. As Utah grapples with a housing crisis, exploring innovative solutions that manage growth and encourage inclusivity is crucial. Join leading experts from both the public and private sectors in an engaging session titled "The YIMBY Playbook." This session provides a comprehensive, solutions-driven, and data-backed exploration of the key issues affecting our cities. Our panelists will address common NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) arguments and present a range of strategies drawn from their extensive experience across public, private, and development sectors. By highlighting actionable insights, this session aims to foster a collaborative environment where stakeholders can work together to create sustainable housing solutions that benefit all communities. Join us as we discuss the possibilities of saying "Yes In My Backyard." Register for the 3rd Annual Housing Summit here: https://lnkd.in/g3t_mUHb #ULI #ULIUtah #HousingSummit #Housing
Good thing that is what we will be talking about. The data refers to experiences and solutions that worked for us. And as a slight correction most NIMBY arguments are emotional, but not all of them. Listening and responding in critical moments is a big part, but this isn’t a one size fits all type of discussion. We want to provide others with a broader range of solutions to each issue type, allowing planners and cities a menu of solutions based on specific arguments. We also touch on recognizing the type of NIMBYs there are. Thanks for giving us a shout out! We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
