Somerset Council has agreed to sell a 12-acre heritage site in #Frome to not-for-profit social enterprise, Mayday SaxonvaleDevelopment Ltd. #MaydaySaxonvale wants to develop a mixed-use site with commercial requirements, new public realm, infrastructure, amenities and quality housing, while preserving the character of Frome. Chair of Frome Town Council Planning Committee, Cllr Steve Tanner, said: “This is a momentous day for Frome. I am absolutely delighted that what feels like a historic decision has been reached. “Frome Town Council has been steadfast in its support of this project, and I am particularly pleased to see Somerset Council make this important decision right here at Frome Town Hall. We will of course continue to work with Mayday through the planning process. “Ultimately this demonstrates exactly what local government should be – responsive, forward-thinking, and rooted in the communities it serves.” Read more ➡️https://lnkd.in/eMxXbwS5 Creating Communities, not ‘Delivering Units’ is one of the panel topics at the Building New Communities Conference on 29 April. The Urban Design Group has published two research papers on “achieving good town form” with the aim of tackling the problem of homes without infrastructure and saving precious land and countryside from badly planned development. The company said: “The UK is being damaged by a wave of new development built in unsustainable locations, which lack the infrastructure and community facilities that people need to live sustainably. Proposals on how to solve the problems are set out in two papers produced by an expert group of urban designers and built environment professionals convened by the Urban Design Group, the UK’s membership charity dedicated to improving the design of cities, towns and villages."
