Building New Communities Conference 2025 - booking open! The annual Building New Communities Conference returns to RIBA London on Tuesday 29 April 2025. Previously known as the Building Garden Communities Conference, the day long event has broadened its scope to include the development of the new towns announced by the government in July this year. It comprises a programme of keynote addresses, panel sessions and round table discussions. Industry experts will share their knowledge and insights on a range of issues and challenges relating to, garden communities, new towns and urban extensions. The event is the ideal forum and information resource for local authorities, investors, housebuilders, architects, planners and other stakeholders involved in the delivery of new homes. Hemel Garden Communities has published its Annual Review. This year marks five years since #Hemel was awarded Garden Town status and the report celebrates the progress made during 2023-2024. Highlights of the past year include the completion of the resurfacing of sections of the #NickeyLine and the #GrandUnionCanal towpath. Tewkesbury Borough Council is planning to deliver a new bridge as part of its commitment to ensuring critical infrastructure supports housing growth within its #GardenCommunities programme. The bridge would unlock access to the first phase of the programme and so, the council has entered into a conditional sale agreement to purchase land at Northway Court Farm, #Tewkesbury, if planning permission is granted. The funding package was agreed between Hampshire County Council, Buckland Group, the Master Developer of Welborne Garden Village, and Fareham Borough Council, supported by Homes England. The largest #housebuilding programme since the post-war period will begin today through a new generation of new towns, as part of the government’s work to kickstart economic growth and get Britain building again. The programme of new towns will create largescale communities of at least 10,000 new homes each, with many significantly larger. These places could deliver hundreds of thousands of much-needed affordable and high-quality homes in the decades to come, tackling the barriers to growth and helping more working people across the country own their own home. Harlow & Gilston Garden Town have unveiled a target of 1,000 new jobs a year over the next 20 years and for the area to become the fastest growing place in the UK. The announcement follows the recent speech by new #Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves , on economic growth and housebuilding. The employment target follows £1.3 billion investment in infrastructure identified by Harlow & Gilston’s five council partnership, with nearly £800m coming from developers, and the delivery of a destination for housing, employment, retail and leisure in the future.
