The Junkluggers is an eco-friendly junk removal company that aims to better the environment and our communities by finding ways to donate, recycle, and reuse unwanted items instead of letting them end up in landfills.    We are committed to creating a greener future and we strive to inspire our residents to embrace these practices, cultivating a community that values environmental stewardship. Is a world without plastic possible? 🤔  According to a study by the Pew Charitable Trust, we have the tools and existing technology to reduce annual flows of plastic into our oceans by up to 80% within the next two decades.  Some of these solutions include mandating caps on plastic and introducing better and more efficient reuse and return systems.  There's nothing we can't accomplish when we come together. Today is Earth Day. 🌍 It highlights the importance of environmental conservation and sustainability, and encourages us to fight for a brighter future. This year’s theme is ‘Planet vs. Plastics’, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040 for the sake of human and planetary health. So, how can we help? 👐 There are plenty of incredible organisations around the world that are on the ground, changing the planet for the better. One being The Ocean Cleanup – a non-profit that develops technologies to rid the oceans of plastic. They’ve removed over 9 million kilograms of rubbish from the environment to date. Their mission is to clean up 90% of floating ocean plastic pollution by 2040. Our Earth Day donation to The Ocean Cleanup will go towards researching, extracting, and monitoring plastic pollution in oceans and rivers globally. Back on dry land 🌳 Trees are integral to all life – we exist because of them. So, we’re delighted to announce Jersey Trees for Life as our new environment pillar charity. Their mission is to plant, protect, and nurture trees while educating and inspiring the community about their environmental and social importance. Jersey Trees for Life and National Trust for Jersey launched a fund dedicated to the restoration of Jersey’s trees, hedgerows, and woodlands following the damage caused by Storm Ciarán. They’re working to replace storm-damaged trees on land for public amenity and enjoyment, and ensure the right trees are planted in the right places across the island. Saltgate will support Jersey Trees for Life’s projects through upcoming charitable initiatives and events with our team.   Looking after our planet should be a year-round commitment. To protect the oceans, Lightnet supports BRACENET, which upcycles ghost nets salvaged from the oceans to create new products such as bracelets and key rings. Ghost nets are lost or abandoned fishing nets often made of nylon, polyester or polyethylene. It is estimated that ghost nets are responsible for around 10 per cent of the world's plastic waste in the oceans. Not only are they a death trap for marine mammals, fish, seabirds and molluscs, they also break down into microplastics and plasticisers over time. In addition, toxins are deposited on the plastic particles, which have a significant impact on marine ecosystems and can ultimately enter the human food chain With their products, Bracenet raises funds for the protection of the oceans and the environment. So far, they have donated €250,000 to organizations such as Healthy Seas, Sea Shepherd, Everwave, the Ocean Voyages Institute and many more. Today is #GiveMiamiDay, an event which collects funds for NGO and social/green initiatives! I am part of @Cleanmiamibeach, an association that tries to fight plastic pollution in the ocean through education, cleanups, art workshops and political actions! I’ve created my own fundraising to collect $500 to help them achieve more in 2024. Anyone who has ever lived in Miami Beach or visited this amazing city is part of the equation: even in our effort to consume less plastic and recycle, we are still using plastic packaging or ustensiles. Think to the many restaurants that serves your drinks in plastic cups or to the boat party where you used the famous red plastic cup. Only 8% of the plastic is recycled in the US and a part of it still goes in our beautiful ocean, destabilizing the amazing sea life. EcoEmpower Alliance Weekly Update Greetings, EcoEmpower Community! This past week has been a whirlwind of impactful activities and inspiring progress. Here’s a recap and what’s coming up next: 1. Human-Elephant Conflict Project: Our team made a significant visit to the communities around Mole National Park, addressing the human-elephant conflict. We engaged with local residents, listened to their concerns, and discussed sustainable solutions. We're thrilled to see the positive impact and welcome we've received. 2. Women's Empowerment through Plastic Waste Recycling: Our meeting with the women of the Murugu community was a huge success! They are excited to begin our first clean-up exercise and start transforming plastic waste into useful products. Empowering these women through recycling not only promotes environmental sustainability but also economic independence. 3. Youth Empowerment for Cocoa Farmers: Our youth groups have been diligently training to provide essential services to cocoa farmers. By equipping these young individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to support cocoa farming, we are fostering both agricultural success and youth empowerment. 4. Supporting Women Farmers: Our dedicated women's groups continue to receive support and resources to thrive in agriculture. We are committed to empowering women farmers, ensuring they have the tools and opportunities to succeed. 5. Sea Turtle Conservation Initiative: We are in the planning stages of our next big project to save and protect sea turtles.
