Steroids are a cornerstone in managing countless diseases because of their potent anti-inflammatory properties. However, their widespread use comes with significant downsides due to #SteroidToxicity. In a recent conversation with Noreen Henig, MD, we explored the difference between using steroids to save lives vs long-term treatment of chronic illnesses. Ivermectin strengthens to soil-transmitted helminth’s treatment 💊 Current approaches based only on benzimidazoles present reduced efficacy against S. stercoralis and T. trichiura. Adding #ivermectin to mass drug administration campaigns can address this issue, as shown in this latest meta-analysis by Australian researchers. Whether with or without our coformulation, progress in STH treatment moves towards combination. https://lnkd.in/dnE-Bgsd

#Antibiotics were once considered wonder #drugs, but now they're becoming less effective because bacteria are getting better at resisting them. Also, very few new antibiotics are being made because drug companies don't see much #profit in them. Dr. Ursula Theuretzbacher, founder of the Center of Anti-Infective Agents in Vienna, Austria, helped write one of a series of papers in The Lancet medical journal looking at the problem. In this episode of the One World, One Health #podcast, Dr. Theuretzbacher explains the need to invest in and ensure #global access to new antibiotics, #vaccines, and #diagnostic tests and the solutions proposed in the series, which can help develop #newtreatments and support #healthcare in countries most affected by antibiotic resistance (#AMR). Watch this episode on #YouTube with captions here: https://ow.ly/QhG750SBcZ8 Learn about the impactful but achievable targets laid out by the Lancet series authors,10-20-30 by 2030, and what should be considered ahead of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting (#UNGA2024) on AMR here: https://ow.ly/mC7650SBcZb

India is one of the world’s leading manufacturers as well as consumers of antimicrobial drugs. However, many of these life-saving drugs are now becoming ineffective against disease-causing bacteria. Around 4.9 million people around the world died in 2019 due to ineffective antimicrobial drugs. The route to discovering new drugs is oftentimes complicated and arduous and requires customised solutions for each target. How does the process of drug discovery even start and what are the steps involved? With the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence in many tools and systems, can AI play a role in facilitating the process of drug discovery? ✍ Somdatta Karak, PhD https://newsth.live/H6sqsy

📢 Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global health crisis—and we can’t wait for new drugs to save the day. Antimicrobials are expensive to develop and can take 10-15 years from discovery to approval. That’s why it’s crucial to preserve the efficacy of drugs we rely on today.
