I had the pleasure of working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the Tech & Digital sector of the NEOM giga-project and with TONOMUS This morning, I was going through a few dusty books on my shelf, and came across this gem. Some people are truly ahead of their time. "WHY CITIES ARE THE NEW NATIONS In 2002, the Urbanist Richard Florida came forward with an interesting theory: Do people really follow jobs? Not anymore, he claimed. Today, jobs follow people. Because of the close link between growth and creativity, there is a battle for creative talent. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 ‘𝟯𝗧𝘀’: - Technology: Growth needs technology. And high technology centres offer attractive employment opportunities. - Talent: Growth needs creative people – entrepreneurs, programmers, artists. - Tolerance: Growth needs openness. Immigration and alternative approaches to life do not jeopardise future success but are a condition for it. Change emerges from openness.” From: The Change Book, Krogerus & Tschappeler, 2012 #vision2030 #innovation #creativity

Is a one-trillion dollar #tech-driven economic upliftment looming in the #GCC region between now and 2031? 2031 being the year the #UAE plans to emerge as a leading technology contributor to the #AI industry globally, and a year after #SaudiArabia's digital transformational #Vision2030 initiative is achieved. Given the massive tech investment plans outlined and underway by countries in the region, I hope consultancies around the world are hard at work developing models to frame the direct and indirect socio-economic impact of these mega projects - employment and skills development; national infrastructure; entertainment; housing; and schooling; etc.; etc. Are there any potential downsides to this instantaneous boom as the Gulf pushes itself to become the "it" address of the fast-evolving #4IR neighbourhood? Although the proportion of women graduates in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) is constantly increasing in the EU, it is currently only around 35% (source: Copernicus.eu) ➗💻 Each year, the #InternationalDayOfWomenAndGirlsOfScience is an opportunity to remember that women and girls play an essential role in scientific and technological communities and that their participation must be strengthened. 👩🔬 And this includes within our business units. At VINCI Energies, we encourage the diversity of talents and support them in their career paths, as Laurence, Business Analyst at Actemium Belgique, explains: “Technology changes very quickly so you have to keep updating your skillset. For example, with programming, I learnt basic skills at university, but the in-house training programmes here quickly enabled me to improve them.” Discover portraits of our collaborators on The #AgilityEffect 👉https://lnkd.in/eUi_2WwZ VINCI Energies Belgium Actemium hashtag #PoweredByYourEnergy

Day 1 of 100: Aiming for NEOM As a woman in STEM and marketing, NEOM is where I want to be. It’s more than a job; it’s where the future is taking shape, and I intend to be part of that narrative. If the sky is the limit, working for Neom is my sky. I’ve spent my career preparing for roles that matter, roles that challenge. This 100-day challenge is my path to NEOM. Will it guarantee me a spot? Maybe not. But I’m all in for making it happen. Even if I don’t land the job, I’ll emerge with valuable insights from this strategy. To the NEOM team, consider this Day 1. Watch this space.

🇸🇦 Just watched HRH Prince Mohammed Bin Salman's enlightening interview with Fox News. A conversation of great import held in Sindalah, one of NEOM projects, a live testament to our Vision projects. 🏝️ This dialogue was more than just an interview—it was an announcement of a bold future. #SSETS #MySDGfocusWithSSETS As a researcher with research focus on environmental sustainability, #UN #SDGs is truly a roadmap for a sustainable planet for all. Out of the 17 #SDGs, the following 4 aligns mostly with my area of research expertise and other interests: #SDG Goal 11 (Sustainable cities and communities): Greater part of my research work is centered on developing low cost building using locally available earth-based materials and waste materials in place of the depleting conventional building materials. The research is important because the more we use the conventional building materials, the more our natural resources will keep depleting. This aspect of my research is contributing to achieving sustainable cities and communities through ensuring circular economy of waste to wealth while cutting down on the use of buildings materials that are depleting our natural resources. #SDG Goal 13 (Climate Action): My research uses locally available waste materials with low or no carbon footprint to replace Portland cement. Portland cement production generates greenhouse gases that leads to global warming and climate change. My research which explores Portland cement replacement with sustainable alternative is contributing significantly to reducing climate change. #SDG Goal 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure): This goal align with my research focus on providing sustainable solutions to the societal infrastrural challenges. Considering the number of homeless people in the world and the lack of basic amenities in our society, this line of research is a necessity. I innovate and develop low-cost building components to contribute to this Goal. #SDG Goal 5 (Gender equality): This SDG Goal aligns with my community development interests. Research and projects on Gender equality is important because of the patriarchal nature (male-dominated nature) of our African society. Women gender needs to be given a voice. My research and community development projects is aimed at contributing to this goal by empowering women and motivating them to take up STEM courses. #SSETS #RecentStrategicConnectionViaSSETS It is great connecting with Patrick Uwajeh, PhD. and Atilade A. Oladunni, Ph.D., R.Eng(COREN), I'm hopeful that our connection will birth great collaborative impactful projects.
