We don't hear so much about the #legaltech used in mid-law, perhaps because it's a part of the market that is not only vast but also disparate - with boutique firms, local regional firms, and smaller full-service firms, the variety is significant. It was interesting to partner with Meritas Law Firms Worldwide recently to support their 2024 annual Tech Survey, which examined the mid-sized market globally for the kinds of technology they invest in, how they prioritize their investments, and what they think about #GenAI. Key takeaways: ⚡ Overall investment in technology is increasing ⚡ Top priorities for investing in legaltech include risk and compliance (67 percent of survey participants), generative A.I. (57 percent), and document automation systems and technologies (more than 50 percent) ⚡ Almost 80% of mid-sized firms expect to leverage GenAI in the next five years ⚡ Mid-sized firms are more likely to utilize additional features in existing systems (such as the Microsoft suite) to gain efficiencies rather than buy new point solutions. Just got interviewed by Steven Lerner for a Law360 article on how small law firms are preparing to embrace AI. As someone who runs a law firm with under 25 team members, I can attest to the challenges in finding the right tech solutions. It's not easy to find products that cater to small firms and niche practice areas, and we've had to sift through a lot of vendors to find the few that offer potentially useful products.
