We call urge our partners in government community leaders, and employers to prioritize the safety of social workers by: - Implementing robust safety protocols and emergency response systems. - Providing regular mandated safety trainings. - Mandating field social workers be paired with colleagues or aides. - Supporting federal legislation like the Protecting Social Workers and Health Professionals from Workplace Violence Act (2022). Social workers are essential in creating stronger and healthier communities. In this webinar we will hear how some councils are working with national and local partners to identify and manage the risks of exploitation and modern slavery in adult social care. In her recent article, "How to Prevent Violence Against Social Workers," Nina Chamlou examines the risks we face as social workers. I was quite flattered Ms. Chamlou was interested in interviewing me for her piece and was kind enough to include a few of my thoughts on this important matter. As social workers, far too often we place ourselves in harm's way. It is true, this is one aspect of the profession...to a limited degree. Much more must be done to safeguard and protect our nation's social workers – the men and women who hold space for those working through the complexities, challenges and tragedies of everyday life.
