Huge news for Siemens and the country. SMI is proud to be working with SAE Industry Technologies Consortia and other stakeholders in government and the private sector to finally make high-speed rail a reality in the United States and North America. Leaders like Peter Doty are laying the groundwork to ensure this game-changing mode of transport is safe and reliable and the nascent industry is sustainable for decades to come, just like air travel, ground transportation and other mobility sectors that are critical to our economy and daily lives. Congress is also poised to play a bigger role, including legislation proposed earlier this year by Reps. Seth Moulton amd Suzan DelBene that would make historic investments in high-speed rail. All aboard!
High-speed rail is coming to America… and the trains will be made in America by Siemens! Marc Buncher, Michael Cahill and I joined Leader Schumer and Brightline West Trains yesterday to announce Horseheads, NY, as the future home for America’s first high-speed rail production facility. Siemens Mobility will create 300 new jobs building trains to support 220 MPH rail service connecting Las Vegas and Southern California. Designed with our digital twins and leveraging solutions offered by our digital platform Siemens Xcelerator, the trains rolling out of this facility will represent the newest generation of high-speed rail technology available anywhere in the world. My optimistic view has always been that high-speed rail is part of America’s future. The question was not if it will happen, but when, and I was often unsure if it would happen soon. But we did it. It’s thanks to consistent support from Leader Schumer, the Biden Administration, USDOT, and Federal Railroad Administrator Amit Bose who all stayed true to this vision. And it’s thanks to a growing spirit of collaboration across the public and private sectors focused on transforming the infrastructure and the industry forming the backbone for the next century of American leadership and growth. Today’s investment is a tremendous example of our own business growth in the United States and Siemens’ rise as a focused technology company. In recent years, Siemens has invested more than $3 billion to expand our U.S. manufacturing presence and strengthen our technology portfolio. See you all soon in the party car!
