Are you looking for another reason to hire a #veteran? While the video below is cool because it shows how a submarine can surface through the ice, it is important to highlight how the crew can work together in a high-pressure environment when a mistake could be disastrous. This kind of teamwork is instilled in all members of the military and is someone they can bring to any workforce. You can teach most everything, but you can't teach will. #veterans #veteransupport #hireveterans

Finding comfort in same, same. Leaving the military can be a scary transition. So many differences. But what happens when we change our mindset and look for similarities? In my new safety position, I am learning that there are a lot of similarities between the military and the civilian world. This makes me feel happy and safe! 1. Being a safety person on a jobsite is a lot like being a 1SG in the motor pool. I can do this! 2. The heat warning system (Green, Yellow, Red, Black) on a jobsite is the same one we use in the Army. I've got this! Whenever we find something that is the same or similar, there is this calm that sets in for us, like a big old hug from an old friend! Are you looking for the similarities? What have you found? #vetsos #veteran #veterans #veteranshelpingveterans #veterantransition #military #militaryspouse #militaryspouses #militarytransition #transitioningmilitary #transitioningveteran #transitioningservicemember

#workrelatedinjuries A career in the Armed forces is very physically demanding especially for those in the frontline forces. The physical rigour takes a toll on the human body, especially the lower limbs. For someone who spends over three decades in such an intense environment, the attrition rate for lower limb injuries is over 70%..which is a very stark and startling reality!! The injury related compensation for such soldiers should be a mandatory grant, rather than be at the whims and fancies of policy makers who can never ever understand the peculiarities of soldiering.. That is why military training should be made mandatory for all bureaucrats!!..

Either tell your employees EXACTLY how you want it done, or give them goals to meet, or accept that they are creative humans and just expect results. I think I lean more towards the middle myself - if I need someone to do something, I explain the problem, give some guardrails (I need this done by X or I need the quality to be Y). I am super averse to micro-management, and I refuse to be that guy. But, I have been known to wonder why folks didn't do it the way I thought it should be done. Michael Klemmer hits the nail right on the head with his post below - that's a ME problem, not a THEM problem. And, as always, Michael does this in a funny way, which is one of the 2 top ways to learn a thing - through humor. If you're wondering what the other is, it's pain - you will ALWAYS learn what not to do if it hurts 😑 #leadership #humor #wisdom #laughter

I can’t count the amount of times someone told me to do something and then got mad at the way I did it. You want it done a certain way, say that. But don’t get all up in arms because you failed to do one thing: Communicate. Oh you’ll say things like - you should have known what I meant - I’m the boss, do it my way. - If you aren’t sure, ask. - you should use common sense. See - the problem here is that you shift the entire blame to the employee. As if they did something wrong. It’s actually your problem. But keep telling yourself it’s not. We all know you will never think that just maybe, it’s your issue, not them. Stay caffeinated out there. There's something special about the open road. I'm currently traveling a lot for my job, spending a lot of time in my truck. It occurred to me how much driving long distance is like the military transition process. You have choices for what to do with your time. When on a long drive, you have options like: 1. You can listen to the radio and jam your way down the road. 2. You can handle business (hands free of course) conducting various calls. 3. You can learn and grow listening to an audio book Same thing happens in transition. 1. You can actively pursue a specific path (schooling, credentialing, etc) 2. You can coast through the transition process doing the minimum. 3. You can do nothing and see what happens. Find what works for you and go after it. Choose wisely my friends, this is your transition. #vetsos #veteran #veterans #veterantransition #veteranshelpingveterans #military #militaryspouse #militaryspouses #militarytransition #transitioningservicemembers #transitioningveterans #transitioningmilitary
