This article argues Russian information operations are a decisive tool of state power rather than a supporting element. Uniquely, Russian leaders are significantly more likely to employ diplomatic, military, and economic tools in pursuit of informational objectives than other states’ leaders. Europe faces growing security challenges as uncertainties in the U.S. threaten the stability of the NATO alliance. The political climate since Trump’s presidency has led Europe to reconsider its reliance on American military support, particularly in light of Russia's aggressive actions. As the U.S. pivots towards Asia, European leaders emphasize the need for greater autonomy in defense, with plans to strengthen the continent's military capabilities and reduce dependence on U.S. resources. #NATO #EuropeanDefense #SecurityChallenges #USPolitics #Russia #TransatlanticRelations

While I believe there is a general agreement that there is room to optimize force posture across #USEUCOM and #USINDOPACOM in both the near and long term, I'm curious what #wargames or #analytics led to their 4+2 recommendation.
“The United States needs a robust, long-term military force posture in Europe, focused on NATO's eastern flank, to deter future Russian aggression.” Read the latest from the CSIS International Security Program: https://lnkd.in/ebnmim-g

President Xi Jinping has ordered the Chinese military to be ready for an invasion of Taiwan by January 1, 2027. Whether they'll actually invade or not, the U.S. military is and will be ready. The cool thing about working at Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific is that I've gotten to see firsthand how we're ready in a way we've never been before. The era of resolving disputes through brute military force alone is quickly fading; now some of our greatest tools are technology, creativity and collaboration. The Navy's current evolution of innovation is defined by a competitive edge far more complex than confrontation or manpower — it's the era of diplomacy, international partnerships, and out-of-the-box thinking with our partners in industry and academia. Pretty cool time to be working for the #usnavy. Read here for one example of readiness happening now: https://lnkd.in/dtSHyehd #knowyourmil, #scienceandtechnology, #researchanddevelopment

The article "US clarity with China is a dangerous mistake" argues that the United States' strategic clarity on Taiwan is misguided and dangerous. The authors, Peter Harris and Jared M. McKinney, suggest that clarity could lack credibility, escalate tensions, and possibly trigger a third world war. They emphasize the benefits of maintaining strategic ambiguity, which helps avoid conflict and maintains stability in the Taiwan Strait. https://lnkd.in/ecGEQGmf USAF Air War College Air Education and Training Command United States Air Force War on the Rocks RealClearDefense USAF Air Command and Staff College #Taiwan

New Post: A Russia-China Show of Force in the Arctic - https://lnkd.in/gWGHpf6W SUBSCRIBER+ EXCLUSIVE REPORTING — As Russia and China put on a show of force in the Arctic, security officials are voicing concerns over NATO’s readiness to counter the threat. “While still less than during the Cold War, increased Russian military activity and modernized capabilities in the Arctic have shifted the balance of power,” Walter Berbrick, a military analyst and former Senior Arctic Policy Adviser to the Secretary of the Navy, told The Cipher Brief. “Unlike during the Cold War, however, Russia is a different and increasingly more unpredictable actor now.” “The Cipher Brief has become the most popular outlet for former intelligence officers; no media outlet is even a close second to The Cipher Brief in terms of the number of articles published by formers.” —Sept. 2018, Studies in Intelligence, Vol. 62 Access all of The Cipher Brief’s national security-focused expert insight by becoming a Cipher Brief Subscriber+ Member. On confrontation course in the South China Sea The situation in the South China Sea intensifies: The US plans to rebuild a military base, the Philippines are upgrading its military infrastructure, whereas China warns of a serious miscalculation and carries out patrols. Tinian is probably best known to historians as one of the worst chapters in human history started on this island in the Northern Mariana Islands. On 6 August 1945, the B-29 bomber "Enola Gay" took off from the local US military airfield "North Field" and dropped the first atomic bomb shortly afterward. Almost 80 years later, Tinian again appears to shift into the focus of geostrategists and politicians. The US plans to rebuild its former military base in the Pacific. But not only the US is taking a stronger position. Philippines already started with assertive transparency. No military hardware is to follow - with radars and missiles. And China's reaction in an editorial at People's Daily, written by "zhong sheng" - which also indicates its seriousness. More at China.Table With great insights from Ray Powell on SCS and assertive transparency. https://lnkd.in/eWr6WFzD #China #USA #SouthChinaSea #Philippines #geopolitics #military
